Milly Dowler's voicemail was hacked by News of the Screws

Good, but I remain sceptical. Are all the people who work there, just going to start a new paper with a different name?
Need to find out who authorised and knew about such activities and how high it goes.

They probably start releasing The Sun on Sunday to make up for it. All the staff who worked on News Of The World may work for The Sun full time.

This is an ideal chance to launch the "7 Day Sun" as such, streamlining the business by closing the News of the World & ditching a soiled brand to boot.

Murdoch has not done this from shame, he's seen an opportunity & taken it.

People should Stop buying the sun as well.

That would be the logical step if you were anti-notw. Unfortunately it'll come down to branding and an awful lot of people will see The Sunday Sun as a completely different entity with a clean slate.

&^%$ just got real, y0.

Reading JM's statement, sounds like there's going to be some pretty big revelations to come still

Especially this:

As a result, the News of the World and News International wrongly maintained that these issues were confined to one reporter. We now have voluntarily given evidence to the police that I believe will prove that this was untrue and those who acted wrongly will have to face the consequences.
Niiice.

Who are conviently pointing out the the whole world possibly could be worse than them.

Do you think, for example, papers bringing this type of illegal activity to the public attention are going to be guilty of it themself?

Don't throw stones when in a glass house would come to mind and people with skeletons in their cupboard aren't going to drag out those belonging to others. The sister papers will continue to try to deflect and ignore the issue being so accutely exlusive.

Just saw that the NotW is closing on the BBC and thought Wow! then saw on the Breaking News ticker "News International not commenting on rumours that The Sun will move to a seven day a week operation"

Unfortunately it is quite likely.

whole lot of poeple jumping up and down about something that in the end and with all things considered does.....not....really....matter.

Everyone is being so PC about this but hell, get off the band wagon and think about it. The poor girl is dead. The soldiers are dead. I fully appreciate the grief its caused but signing the p45's for all the people who work for the related companies helps nobody.

The self righteousness of the massess is hillarious sometimes.

RIP etc.

No change at all really then at the end of the day, any decent employees will be moved onto a different News Corp paper and we'll have The Sun on Sunday. Wonderful.

I guess this confirms all suspicions more or less then, quite a drastic measure.

Cynical opportunism by the Murdoch mafia

As people have suggested, the News of the World will be re-branded as the Sunday Sun and everything will carry on just as before.

The problem is not the title, it's the scum at News Corp. The Sun, the Times and Sky are all run from the same stinking cess-pit.

Get all the Murdochs and their festering henchmen and women right out of the British Media, permanently. Brooks/Wade and Coulson should spend a long time gaining a valuable insight into the British prison system.

Don't ever forget that Brooks/Wade, James Murdoch, Coulson and Cameron are best buddies so this should all now be swept under the carpet whilst they bask in a smug sense of satisfaction at a job well done

Essentially no one who currently works at News of the World probably had nothing to do with phone hacking.

Murdoch has sacrificed a chunk of British history (and for the most part, the NotW was a British tabloid in the noble sense - the Pakistan cricket betting scandal the most resent good example) and the careers of many to save, seemingly, Rebekah Brooks.

The Sunday Sun (and similar) is already trademarked to a small northern paper.
IIRC, News Corp tried to buy it a few times before and failed, so its likely they will have to invent a completely new name (or simply call the sunday paper "the sun" and the weekday paper " the weekday sun")
