I think that would also probably indicate something about the part of the nation you are from that such class defining words can be used synonymously with business associates/friends

I've been avoiding this thread because of the OP... and in my book guessing someone's voicemail PIN is not "hacking".

Anyways, I read that NOTW is going to close, and money from this W/Es is going to charity. Big news!

Not that I've ever bought a copy... but to me it seems a bit of a shame to think of an entire company going (heck even the cleaners and the tea lady) because of a few dodgy journos.

I wish I knew what all the fuss about this was - he's effectively had control of it ever since it came into existence in 1990. He owned 80% of Sky Television when it created BSkyB and his Son was CEO of BSkyB for years anyway!

I believe that Murdoch owns less than 50% of BSkyB. Newspapers are history, digital media is the future. The turnover of BSkyB is about five times that of ALL his UK newspapers.

Murdoch, with the enthusiastic support of the Tories is doing everything he can to destroy the BBC. When that happens, he will be the only significant TV broadcaster in the UK.

I suspect that Murdoch would happily sell off or even close down all his UK newspapers in exchange for gaining full control of BSkyB.

He does, yes, because the merger of his majority owned Sky Television was a 50/50 deal that diluted his shareholding.

But come on, his son was CEO at the age of what, 30 or something? It's pretty clear he controls it anyway, regardless of the shareholding.
