hi, since upgrading to Q9450 i had another option in my gigabyte p965 bios appear which is called = Fine cpu clock ratio so i can now add 0.5 extra to my multiplyer so i actually now have a X 8.5 mutiplyer so instead of 2.66 ghz i get 2.83 ghz, so my question is why do i have this option now?

Edit i just realized that even thought it said in bios that the multiplyers at 8.5, its still at only 8 x but im still happy bc 2 running smooth and crysis 2 is a lot better

Some gigabyte bios has this option(0.5 multi increments) but only for the CPUs that supports is. Q9450s max multi is 8 so you will not be able to go higher than this, but should be able to do 6.5, 7,5 etc giving you more FSB overclocking head room

Trouble is on those cpus, for overclocking the low multiplier is the main issue so he'll never likely want to use a lower .5 multi :D

Yeah tell me about it bc2 runs terrible on dual cores! My friends and I often have lan parties and two of them have 8800gt's and one is running an e6400 @ 3.2ghz and the other a q6600 @ 3.2ghz and on the dual core it's a lag fest while on the q6600 it's perfectly smooth!

That's why I am waiting with an upgrade. Currently have Q9550. Fitted new cooler yesterday and overclocking it while I write this. Aim is to have total of 1GHz overclock, so 3.83GHz.

Subytna I can see you have a very simillar PC to mine, our motherboards and cpus are the same.

Core 2 Quads won't be gone so soon! :D
