just had a lovely email from British Gas.

customer your prices will be increasing on average by 19% for gas and 17% for electricity, with effect from 18th August 2011**. This price change will amount to an increase of £15 per month for an average dual fuel customer on your tariff.

that percentage hike seems a bit step!

Taking the **** now tbh.

It's always the same....blah blah blah we've put off raising prices while wholesale gas prices have risen and now we need to raise them.

Oh Crap im with BG, Great! Time to change supplier again will be 3rd time this year LOL

Its a pain to do but you save on the signing up offers LOL
I alternate the account names between me & my misses

I think they're all the same, they just take it in turns to put up their prices

Here we go again! Just had our local water provider decide that all private drains belong to them and will now charge sewerage... yeh another way to fleece your wallet. Im talking about "South West Water". We have the highest water bills in the country and always bleet on about our coastline cleanup and repairing londons water pipes

We are on EDF energy for both gas and electricity. its a nightmare at the moment :(

why doesn't one of the suppliers stay low so everyone switched to them. They would have 100% of the market so surely would be the best off.

Its when they announce profilts in the billions, now that really boils my potatoes.

Funny how this is just what i was thinking. :-(

Price of oil goes up they say they have absorbed the costs for as long as they can then boom shoot prices up to rebate there profits.

Then stupidly there profits are in the Billions.....
e.g
Why can't they buy for £5 and charge £7 instead of the £2000 it feels like

Curiously BG paid significanly less for electricity wholesale than Scottish Power yet are increasing retail prices by a higher amount

'The end of year results highlight the stark contrast in prices; with Scottish Power paying the highest wholesale price for electricity at £68.30/MWh on average, which is 27% more than Centrica (which owns British Gas) paid at £53.69/MWh.'

Their profit margin (ie profit as a percentage of turnover) is less than 10%, which is nothing special. Lots of other companies make more (some significantly so). At the end of the day they have significant assets in the North Sea, Irish Sea, Norway etc and are a public company so aren't run as a charity.

Also Ofgen are investigating the energy companies' prices so if they have been profiteering I'm sure it will come out of the woodwork in due course.

I'm getting sick & tired of massive corporations that rinse the consumer for everything they've got. They seem to be everywhere. I've never really been interested in having money, so it intrigues me that all the people I meet in life who have or want money are ****s without exception.

Where are the good guys? Are Logitech the only ones who care?!?!??!

yet when the gas prices come down, do they lower their prices, do they ****
yet as soon as they go up they bitch about the wholesale price of gas etc and ramp up their consumer prices

nationalise gas and electric and make it not for profit
