Managing to take money WITHOUT completely the online application.

So.. given this scenario: (And this is not me directly, but I'm having to deal with it).

1) Clicks banner for free credit report
2) fill in name, email, address
3) See it asking for card details.. so stop application at that point.

Yet.. even though no financial information is given to them, they still manage to charge a credit card (or credit card account).

How? My thoughts are, either they are getting financial details from wherever the banner was clicked from (it happened with lastminute.com btw), OR they are somehow getting the details from the name and address.

All I know is that I'm fuming after receiving some complete tripe 'evidence' from them, (alledged email, and some blank screen shots of their webpage).

p.s. Yes I know they are a scam company, and I'd never do anything myself with a 'free' report unless via experian or someone else of that caliber, I'm just trying to work out HOW they managed to get financial details.

Yeah I see what you are saying batsy.. the old java (script) issue of being able to read websites from another tab. Possibly some flight websites (although unsure of if lastminute was it tbh, as mentioned, it wasn't me, but I'm dealing with the fallout).

Tingle> I don't have malware on my machine bud :-) It isn't that. Basically it's about £200 out of pocket for something that was never actually signed up for, and I'm trying to suss out how they did it. As mentioned it could be via another website (such as lastminute.com) that passed card details, but obviously they aren't saying that... they are claiming it was signed up for, which it wasn't.

Note: This is not a case of not reading the terms and conditions for something that was 'free', it simply was not signed up to, yet still have got card details and charged, and because it's a subscription service cancelling your card won't stop the payments, as it's against the account and not the card.

Why haven't you reported it to the bank and police as fraud. Card or bank linked. The bank will stop the payments and investigate,

Ah right, sorry, I must've misinterpreted what you were saying in your original post XD

I have. I've been through this cycle already. The banks are absolutely useless at dealing with this. At first they tried the blame game on the account holder *Sigh*. Managed to get 1 month refund back so far out of them from the bank, and they will refund any future one's.

The account with Quickcreditscore has now alledgely been cancelled according to the QCS's letter, but they are claiming it was signed up to, and gave a copy of an email (correct email address), and some non-filled out screen shots of the sign up screens. The email was never received, and it contains no financial details in the email, so it means nothing, only that they had the email address.

It was a suggestion of lastminute.com because I've read about it before and they admit they handed details to QCS on 'just' a banner click (shocking). But, that person was only browsing for flights around that time (as in 'that month-ish), and I have no way of knowing if they did or didn't click on a banner from there, so investigation's on that would be very difficult. Although saying that, it may be worthwhile asking them if they released any details ... hmm..

If a credit account show's up on a credit report, I wouldn't be surprised if QCS were illegally getting bank details from that, but I'm unsure if that's possible.

Is there a possibility (i know neither you nor the person you're helping) that they did indeed fill in all the info, including credit card details only to then realise it wasn't legit?

I can only say that they assure me they didn't as they thought it was free, then saw the screen asking for card details which set off warning signals, so they didn't fill it in.

The company in question is basically a legal loophole company, managing to get away with it as such.
