Guys , just been to see transformers 3 in 3d today .

1 adult ticket and 2 child tickets were £27.00 , ok dear but I am happy to pay that .

Kids want drinks popcorn ect so I order the following for all of us

2x medium colas
1x packet of mars planets
1x mixed ice blast
1x medium popcorn

£19.23. , Ffffffffff what ?

Anyhow ok it's peeing it down and I have just spent £47 to go to the cinema , feeling royaly raped we sit down for the show and I must have had mugg tattooed on my forehead, everyone takes in small bottles of Cooke and own other snacks .

Are they allowed to do this or have I been owned .

It's how they make their money. Which is why I wish the American equivalent of the $1 cinema, you have to wait a few weeks for the films to make it their, but the hit on your wallet isn't so bad.

They're not allowed to do it but everyone does. The coke is watered down too much in the cinemas. Just take your own stuff in as lOng as it isn't bothering anyone, nobody cares. Eg, nothing noisy.

They don't check at all either.

They're technically not allowed to bring in snacks. If I recall, the ticket price doesn't even cover the cost of running the cinema and showing the films - only do they break even and then start making profit on drinks and crisps.

In there eyes it is better to keep the ticket price down (to bring people in) and try to up-sell them on snacks.

You don't have to buy them..

We bring our own in. These days, mainly because the wife doesn't want to eat the crap they sell and would rather munch on fruit, etc.

Generally buy drinks so as not to arouse suspicion.

I don't sneek anything into the cinema. I walk past the assistants with my Asda/Sainsburys bag full of goodies in tow.

What they going to do? Stop me? Refund of my overpriced ticket, please!

So you go on a saturday night... Buy enough snacks to feed a small army... And then complain about the price? :p

Personally. Orange wednesday code... Student cards... 1x Large popcorn... £5 each for a film and a snack...:)

TBH I never understand why people have to buy so much rubbish when they go to the cinema, why do you need sweets and drinks? You're only there for 2-3 hours!

3 hours is generally a long time to sit without a drink. Nothing wrong with grabbing a couple of juice bottles to sip on and a little bag of sweets/crisps to nibble at.

I'd like a citation for that...
I don't have a citation I can link you to. I was given the details by some guy in a pub.

Ok, it's not as silly as that. The 'guy in a pub' was a friend who worked in a team in Bank of Scotland that financed and managed a deal involving Vue Cinema some years back.

That said, I had a quick Google and if the UK cinema industry is anything like that in America, then I don't think his version of things is far wrong: http://themovieblog.com/2007/10/eco...re-the-money-goes-and-why-it-costs-us-so-much or http://www.quora.com/How-do-movie-theatres-make-money
