Omni Directional car anyone?

Anyone else think the implications for modern vehicles to use the above system are just huge.

4 Omni directional motors would allow almost limitless maneuverability.

No good for a car. Amongst other issues, the contact patch is small, and you'd have little room for tread, so you'd have poor traction and grip - which would be further exacerbated in poor conditions.

Surely the contact patch on current tyres is barely a few square inches anyway. Im sure it could be used some how, maybe not in its current form but certainly in a few years time with several million pounds of development money thrown at it.
