Hi guys,

Went to sign into my Hotmail account this morning to find that the password had been changed.

I managed to recover the account and my mate said that some one was online at 6am in the morning asking him over and over what my fave sports team was.

I'm not sure how some one could have accessed my hotmail account, I wasn't aware of any viruses but then again I don't have an AV.

I tried to log into my gmail to find that had also been hacked, when I recovered it, it gave me a warning message saying my account had been accessed from the US with an I.P of 66.96.228.175.

How could this have happened? :s

easy passwords or keyloggers are a start.

Get it changed back from a different pc, use difficult passwords, security questions that are not easily guessable and get a decent AV.

You can either run it on your current setup, or format and start from scratch.

Of course, it could also be from a work pc?

I formatted my PC, first thing I did. It's strange how my friend said he had broken English but gmail said the I.P is comming from the US. Is it possible that they could be using a proxy?

EDIT -

Details for the I.P says this

Hostname: nicedugtrio.info
ISP: Network Operations Center
Organization: Circle Crest Networks
Proxy: None detected
Type: Corporate
Assignment: Static IP

Why no AV? My pal was saying the other day (when I was round fixing his computer because of a virus ) that they are pointless so wondering why you don't use them.

I had someone trying to gain access last week as well. I kept getting emails in my inbox for one time access codes.

I was freaked a bit as i had a fairly strong password, but they were clearly trying to gain access by other means.

Anyway i now have a stupidly long, and complex password so lets see them crack that one.

What AV should I be using guys? I never used one before because of how system heavy they seemed to be, took a lot of resources.

So is this information pretty much worthless?

Details for the I.P says this is from USA, in scranton PA.

Network Operations Center seems to be a place that sells dedicated servers. Is this just a server the hackers were using or something?

Is your sports team your secret question? They'll have just figured it out, secret questions are easy to hack if the answer is actually relevant to the question..

Just install Microsoft Security Essentials or one of the other decent free ones recommended in the Windows forum on here.

If you bank with Barclays you get a free copy of Kaspersky internet security which I found to be good. I'm sure other banks do similar things.

So to any experieced people does this point towards who could have hacked me or could these just be false details for the hacked to hide behind?

Could be some kind of botnet coming through a backdoor, by my understanding?

Also, get Avira or similar.
