X3 gold pack - worth a buy?

If you like the sound of a hardcore space sim mixed with empire management coupled with the ability to buy and pilot pretty much every ship in the game (from lowly fighter to massive carrier) then you need to get it. Be warned though, depending on the way you play it can take quite a while to get to where you might consider the meat of the game is.

Having said that, Egosoft's website and forum is absolutely replete with splendid info and there's a plethora of mods available too.

Basically, if you aren't a wimp, dive in. ;)

I got X3: Terran Conflict as that seems to be the most up to date version from what I've read.

Do you guys recommend a joystick or is mouse & keyboard ok?

I got the X3 gold pack for £6.49. Mainly wanted Terran Conflict as I had heard that is much better than reunion but for £6.49 its a steal.

mouse & keyboard is a must for this game joystick makes it a pain to play sadly.

Just be careful tho This game can steal your life. I have spent over 1000 hours playing it. I got so addicted to it my wife threatened to leave me.

Is there a more streamlined way to manage trading? I just managed to afford my second trade ship and already there's a lot of micromanagement from trading with two ships alone.

the Terran Corp hq and a few other races sell an item called trade system mk3
Costs about 700.000 I think but makes trading automatic for the ship it's on depending on it pilots level.

Level 1 only 1 system
level 3/5 2-3 jumps from homesystem

then later at about 20 it will go anywhere
sorry if I got any names or info worge not played the game my self
in a while

Have a search on the ego forums for guides on "sector traders" and "universe traders"

Basically you buy trade software mk3 (about 500k) and set your ship to trade automatically. As the pilot gains levels they can trade of multiple sectors until eventually they can use a jumpdrive and become universe traders.

I have 1 universe and 4 sector traders running at the moment, makes a nice bit of easy income.

I got the Super Box, with all the games in so I could get the whole story... Looks like this may take a while!

Jcb33.

Dont tell the new guys lies, Joystick is the best way to play the game.

Its by far the best way to pilot the ships. Just try to use a KB and mouse to do a barrel roll while using the strafe drive and changing speed.

Its a flight sim play it the way its ment to be played with a Joystick.

I once tried to play these, but never got more than 10 mins in due to suffering with the keyboard and mouse...

Might give it another shot!

Steam sale still on?

When I start a new game i tend to sell all the start ships (some starts give you 2). Get a kestrel or discoverer and collect the abandoned ships. (google for a list and locations).

Some of the abandond ships are worth 5mill each. But I would reccomend NOT selling them as they are one of a kind. They are great for the first few story missions. The second I hit 5mill credits the story gets put on hold and space weed/booze complex get built in heretics end this supplies you with a steady income. ST/UT are good at the start but pain in the rear for micro management.

If you don't want to do story at the start of your game use abandoned ships for trading. More ships = more cash.

What joystick do you use as I have never managed to get the hang of this game with joystick.

I use a Saitek Cyborg EVO Wireless Joystick, the throttle is in an awkward place. I only got this model because its wireless.

Ive got x52 pro, works a treat because it's got so many buttons to use. Hardly ever have to take my hands off :)

Chose against getting it because my joy stick is broken and it's the 3rd one I have owned and don't fancy shelling out again. I have no idea how they keep breaking on me, they wern't cheap either. Though my dog did break one of them and the other was rather old.

So currently I have 3 Mercury M's with Trading Extentions, Trading Software Mk3 etc (Basically fully upgraded except for shields and weapons). I also have a Wheat Farm in a sector with lots of bakeries and no farms and a Wheat Farm and a Cattle Ranch in a sector with a bakery and lots of munitions factories but no farms or ranches. Also made a lot of cash from buying junk ships and repairing them myself and selling them.

Kinda stumped as to where to go from here. I'm trying to keep trading with the Argon to keep cash coming in and also so I can buy a complex contruction kit for my Cattle Ranch/Wheat Farm combo and a new kitted out trade ship but i'm really short on cash (My sector trader is level 10 and not bringing in all that much, he's in Empire's Edge) and I can just about keep my factories running with energy cells but that's about it.

If yer sector trader is lvl 10 you can now upgrade to UT. The start of this game is slow if you are inexperienced. Also if you have the bonus pack installed research it makes the micro management a lot easier. Also ST/UT in large numbers become a pain in rear to micro manage and tbh I would go seta x 10 until have 5 mill. The dock them until have another factory and use them for that. Factory management is simple set and forget with the right setup.

This is very useful for factory building.

Space weed and booze in heretics end. GUARANTEED MONEY.
