k&n air filters

i think u r just gettin arsey because u r using an open cone filter and everyone is slagging them off

when i had the K&N i could feel slight flat spots under acceleration at times,, normally when i had been sat in traffic or something, so i made a heat shield for it which slightly improved the problem,, so with that that in mind i then made fully enclosed sealed box for it, fed it with an air feed from down by the bumper which completely solved the problem,, so thats my testing done under 3 different stages using the same filter, and the only thing that has changed from step one too step 3 is that it could no longer draw air from the engine bay, its not a placebo effect.

My car has a carburettor, so no I don't run a cone filer.

For what works on one car wont have the same results on another and vice versa and swings and roundabouts and etc etc

Personally I CBA with them as i've wasted money on them in the past

You can have the same issues with non oiled filters. Its the Air flow through the Maf with a K&N or other filter the air rolls as it is sucked through the filter causing the MAF to mis read. If you google apexi filters you will see they have a cone on the inside of the filter which smooths the airflow through the MAF and into the intake.

I can't remember where but one of the big tuners did a lot of testing on the different types of filters and this issue was brought up.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

What a load of billy ball bag.

It's quite common and a simple google will find you all the info you require.

No, google will find a heap of crap marketing like that graphic you just posted made to fool people such as yourself in to buying inferior filtration devices for their cars thinking that my magically smoothing and caressing the passing air in to a happy and uniform flow will result in added horsepower and increased internet bragging rights.

Bed you wear one of those 'power balanace' bands don't you - the ones that smooth your blood out with intergalactic crystals to instantly make you stronger and more flexible so you can nosh your own weiner.

Oh dear such an angry little man just because someone says somethig you don't agree with. When you have grown up a little then feel free to discuss why you think that it is all rubbish rather than just posting insulting rubbish. But I imagine you are one of these I'm 22 and know it all types so we will get nowhere fast...

:D

Thing is, if you remove some 90 degree rubber bends and replace with straighter pipework and add a free'er flowing filter possibly with velocity stack i dont see any reason why an intake couldnt increase response and or performance over a badly designed stock box.

the oe box was designed to limit noise and be neat and tidy -not provide optimum breathing capacity. remember that!

Ok now I'm confused!!!!

Air filter performance varies depending on the car/engine/bay layout etc.

It's not correct to say cone filters are rubbish full stop. The tests done in the thread I linked to showed a marked improvement using a cone filter over a standard airbox setup.

My advice would be to read up on what people have spent a fortune trying out on the car you have!

Exactly, beautifully put.
If your car doesn't have a restrictive airbox (mine for example) then it makes sweet eff all difference fitting an aftermarket filter - panel or cone.

However if it's a horribly restrictive airbox like the one on my old MR2 then fitting a better flowing filter does make a difference.

The fact that a cone filter can actively smooth airflow as it travels down the inlet pipe and over the MAF however is marketing BS.
