Does anyone know of any firm release date? Am I best off waiting for bulldozer or shall I just go with sandybridge?

Is anyone else in the same situation at all?

Thanks :)

There is no firm release date. It seems likely that the release will be Aug/Sept.

I would say wait unless you are in a rush. If you need a PC now then Sandy is very nice, but if you can afford to wait then you probably should =)

My s775 rig is just about holding up. If Skyrim or Diablo 3 came out tomorrow or if my PC died in a fire then I would happily build a Sandy.

I have diablo 3 on pre order :) Who knows when that'll come out. I figured I'd upgrade while I have some spare cash, as due to an imminent arrival I doubt I'll have spare money for a very long time afterwards!

SB is amazing but we are seeing more and more unofficial reports on BD specs , so methinks they official info can't be to far off, well worth the wait if the official information is anything to go by!

What would you be using the cpu for?

I have had D3 on pre order for over a year now =P It is going to atleast 6 months by the looks of things.

Good luck with that arrival :)

BD is due in August.
There's a preview on the 16th.
Clock for clock, it's worse than SB. However the Z68 platform has Ivy Bridge support..
In multi threaded apps, BD will be king at least until Ivy.

You seem very certain of all this information...

I said due, not coming out. And AMD said that before. 60-90 days from the first of June, that puts it in August.
That's certainly a news that gamers that prefer AMD not want to hear...:o

Well. AMD's not going to be clock for clock better than SB, and people banging on about "price/performance" can stick quiet, Thuban gets beaten by a 2120 for the most part, software that is used in the real world (People that need more cores, will buy more cores) simply doesn't take advantage of a massive amount of cores.

I'm using it primarily for games but we want to get into video encoding and editing for family videos etc. Photo manipulation is next on my list of priorities but primarily the pc will be for games :)

I say for both gaming an encoding/editing, the SandyBridge would most likely be a better choice than the Bulldozer even if the rumours of them being faster at heavy threaded situation were true.

Higher frame rate in games > video encoding finishing 10-20s early when you AFK :D

Thanks for the replies :)

Seems sandybridge it is then, just got to decide whether to go back to asus when i swore I wouldn't after their shoddy P67 returns service.

I've currently got a p55a-ud7 and I like gigabyte but the p8z68 pro is quite tempting :)

Thanks for replies -

I was going to go high end asus, purely as I quite liked their uefi bios. The MSI one, from what I've read is terrible?

Nowadays MSI motherboards are in the same league as Asus and Gigabyte...the days of them having poor motherboard is like years ago...

I noticed you mentioned you got a p55a-ud7 board, at the moment, so you already got a i5 750/i5 760 CPU? If that is the case, I would advise against upgrading to SB...yes the SB might give a a little back more frame rate, but the cost ain't worth it if you already got a i5 750/ i5 760.

Indeed mate I have an i5 760 currently. My reason for upgrading now as stated above is due to an imminent arrival that will probably mean I have the same pc in three years ;)

Plus new toys will make the late nights easier to bare ;)
