Hey, well I'm putting a nice big 50" in my room and it needs some speakers to go along with it and I was wondering what people recommended. The room isn't huge so don't want to have wires all over the place for a 5.1 set up so am going to stick to 2.1.

I don't want to spend too much as I have ageo M 2.1's for my pc and the tv will not be playing music and mainly films. So what would people suggest for a well priced 2.1 set up for a tv? The cheaper the better obviously.

well if hes using a 50inch tv why would he want crap sound for his films?
i would have recommended a amp and bookshelf speaker combo which would be much better than any pc speakers but cost a bit more, the reason i chose the z263 is because they are a probably the best sounding 2.1 pc speakers at around 150ish which are THX certified. any lower price than that and its probably going to sound bad and you might as well just stick with the tv built in speakers.

The tv speakers aren't great so I'm just looking for an upgrade. I don't see the point in spending all that money on film sound. Sure I'd spend on it for my music and gaming but that is differnt. I'm not much of a console gamer and I spend half the year away from my tv anyway because I'm at uni so there is no reason to spend so much on speakers for it.

I'd take the ageo m's over z263 personally. I am tempted to pick up a second pair but I'm not sure I want to spend that much, might have to wait a bit if i'm going to put that money down after putting £1100 on a tv. Yes you can argue that there is no point spending that much on a tv if you aren't going to spend much on the sound but let me point out again that I just really don't see the need for £250 speakers for films.

£250?

the z623 are £140
i recommended them because the reviews say they are better for film than music.

if you only want to spend around £80 lets say then its going to be better to save the money as you wont see a difference in sound or the tv speakers will sound better.

£250 was in respect to getting separates and even then £250 is scraping the barrel.

As for £80, that would be a lot better as the main problem is the TV speakers have little oomph. Less than most tv's for some strange reason. So even £50 would be a vast improvement tbh. My mum has a bose 2.0 in the kitchen I could try and steal but I suspect she wouldn't let me.

Oh dear. If you honestly think £80 speakers will sound no better than a TV's built in speakers, then I'm sorry, you don't know much about sound. I'm quite surprised you think one must spend £150 in order to see an improvement over TV speakers.

I bought some Logitech z523s for £70 for my TV and they are a million times better than the TVs own speakers, too much bass though from the sub annoyed the neighbours, so ended up with them edifier 1600's also bought the Logitech z323 for my PS3 upstairs, i got them for £25 on a sale on the rainforest and even those are a million times better than my upstairs TVs own sound, although the sub on them is no where near as good for the deep sounds they still pack a small but nice punch and the sound quality from the Speakers are lovely

Infact i have the z523s boxed ready to sell, might put them on the members market see if i can recoup some of the money paid...

Pretty much my opinion. I am someone who will always try to buy the best quality I can get my hands on but this situation really does not call for it. This tv isn't going to be used daily so I just want some speakers with a bit more oomph to them over the very poor stock speakers. I don't think you'd even really see much improvement at all on £500 over £80 on day to day tv. Maybe the voices might sound a bit nicer on neighbours.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will look into them but what ever I buy will be brand new. Never been into buying second hands really. Particularly off forums when you don't have any sort of protection if it goes wrong.
