Hey dudes

Right I start my new job tomorrow and am considering in the next few months to switch to a diesel, but I dont want to loose any power that I find in my current car. I currently have a Nissan Primera GT and it has 138bhp and 133torque. New it had 147bhp but hey, it is almost 12 years old now. 0-62 is around 8.5 seconds, but what I really like is that on the motorway I can go from like 60-70+ really quickly in 5th gear. I also like how the car handles and how nimble (for its size) it actually is.

Right now I get about 37mpg combined. I have had it at 47mpg on medium motorway trips, and as low as 20mpg round town when not really coming out of 2nd that much.

I am doing 80miles round trip a day, so even though that mpg is great for a petrol, I wouldnt mind getting some more. I have been looking at the Seat Leon Cupra 1.9TDi, which apparently can return 51mpg combined, 0-62 of 7.5seconds and obviously due to the torque it would be great on the motorways. I am also looking at the BMW 330 Diesel but dont know much about them, and I have never owned a RWD before. Lets say I have 4-5k to spend?

TL;DR: 4-5k on a Diesel with great performance as well as good fuel consumtion. Looking at the Seat Leon Cupra 1.9TDi and maybe the BMW 330 Diesel.

:D

Leon Cupra 1.9TDI sounds a good choice (even the Golf TDI 150). Not sure how much they go for but am positive you'll get a good one for your budget.

BMW 330d is out of your budget, especially a post facelift (which is recommended).

Mk3 Mondeo Zetec 2.0 TDCi for me - I've got an ST version with the 2.2 Engine. It's more 'sporty' than the Zetec but the Zetec is still a great drive, there's really nothing in it on the day-day commute and the 2.0 is slightly more economcial and the ride on the 16-17" is smoother than the 18"s.

It's not got the best press for reliability with Injectors and DMF but if you know where to get things fixed it's no worse than another modern diesel another car. Discs, pads and other consumables are reasonable.

Honda 2.2cdti Civic 50MPG is achievable if you drive normally.

I do actually drive normally. I just would like a car that when I want to have a little fun it will allow me too.

I have looked at the Fords, but something about them just says no.

So nothing really challenging the Leon atm?

I have a 330d and average around 700 miles a week.

I don't have much suspension issues as it was overhauled with powerlfex stuff.

Cooling system is completely ****e, the computer tries to get me to do 20k between services so I do oil and filter halfway. Gearbox fluid is done every year aswell.

Surprise bills have been egr thermostat, water pump, power steering belt, ballast failing, torque converter failing, egr activation solenoid failing other than that its all been the usual stuff like tyres etc. Still on the original turbo though!

Car has been owned for 4-5 years and its now on 162k.

See on my primera, apart from when I spun in ice and caused some minor damage, the only thing to go was the drive shaft. Tyres etc are things that go on all cars, but for owning my primera for 5 years almost and only changing a driveshaft, oh and maybe one supension arm, its not bad!
