Are you allowed to.......

It's a tough one, as if they allow one, what's to stop individuals to register with the sole intent on promoting their business interests whilst moonlighting as a member?

How do you differentiate between genuine members who wish to share their services with a community they feel bound to and those who just see it as an open opportunity? You can't really.

What is it you do out of interest. Obviously avoid naming your company or website, etc. I'm just curious.

Separate sub forum - x number of posts & months active / registered. Trust account etc etc. BringTheRain would be able to offer special forum member discount with his 6 for 4 window pane specials.

lol Zefan! :D :D

Make a rule similar to the members' market? Stop people registering with the sole intent of advertising, but that allows long term members who are already part of the community, make it known what services they offer if they do.

Again, like the guy who makes robots and has a laser cutter, where no one seems to mind that he's promoting his business (I see no problem with it, it's just a valid example).

But you're allowed to ask for slogan / name ideas for your business, which the thread itself promoted... :p

I already had the name, no contact info is on the web AT ALL. So how would anyone find my details on the web?

I clean windows in one town, and if I was contacted about window cleaning. I would just say no.

Unless TC wants me to clean his windows, then I would. In a mankini.

I can totally understand the rule. But it is a shame.
So much artistic and programming talent on here. Would be nice to use people on here for such things.

See my edit. But the problem is, the entry criteria for MM is still far too low and you'll still find individuals joining with the sole intention of gaining access.

The only way you'd be able to implement that would be having say a 7,500 post and two year membership criteria as a basic. Similarly it would probably have to be a 'Offering' and 'Wanted' section. But again, who moderates it? The MM is a nightmare enough as it is as from what I'm to understand.

I was only joking. :p

I suppose your right, I wouldn't want to go round to the houses of half the people on here... would be quite a few disturbing sights!

You have a very valid point Nix. Maybe it's time to change the entry criteria.

As for moderating the MM being a nightmare. Your right "it is" :( Been a mod in there for 2 years and it is not getting any easier. :(

I would say that's along the light lines, 7500 posts is a bit high, but I do agree it shouldn't be as low as the MM requirements. 250 posts isn't much at all, and I know at times I've made over 250 posts in just a few days.

I know bud. I spotted the :p

I took out my location details some time ago. So I didn't get random people contacting me about window cleaning. Or dressing up a wasp or hornet while cleaning windows in the nude.

is there no way to automate some of it?

thinking along the lines of auto closing thread/sussing a member if they bump within X time with no other replies.(so it doesn't catch people responding to questions/accepting an offer)

Nix you have a trust rating of ONE. How in what way is the MM a nightmare.

Oh and in before "I quit"

he said from what he understands moderating the mm is a nightmare.

ie what past dons/ub's have said, and that was backed up by TC's response.

He didn't say using it was a nightmare.

Maybe because I am not a DON, I don't see how hard it is :)

I thought he nightmare comment was aimed at the MM in whole :)

LOL :p I just talk about acidic water and wasps remember ;)

I think Zefan was referring to me:p

I don't think so Tefal.
