Just a little rant about cleaning an oven. Bought some mr muscle and its getting a lot of gunk off but seems not to get the very last layer off. Also it does great on the shelves but can leave the last layer on and needs a scrub which according to mr muscle u shouldnt need to scrub at all just wipe.

:(

Need to buy a few more spray cans of the stuff if im gona finish it today and one of them oven brushes as some parts on the shelves where the joined bits are are causing a nightmare to remove with a scourer or brillo pad.

for shelves my mrs always gets some throaway plastic bag things from the pound shop, you stick the shelves inside the bag add water and leave to soak , after an hour or whatever you rinse the shelfs and they look brand new

Make sure you have a proper oven cleaner, not just your generic cillet bang or similar.

Cleaning an oven is the worst household chore, I don't envy you!

My Mum cleaned cookers for a living in the Spares & Repair department at Creda/Hotpoint for about 15 years.
She used white stuff.
That is all.

My oven has a 'Pyro Clean' (pyrolitic) function, like many commercial ovens have, that heats the inside of the oven to 500-600 degrees over an hour.

I'm then literally left with a pile of ash on the bottom of the oven - the rest is spotless. It comes out looking brand new every time.

I worked out the cost of doing this. It is cheaper than buying oven cleaning materials, and presumably it is more environmentally friendly too depending on where my electricity is produced.

Just be careful not to switch it onto 'Pyro Clean' while you have food in there :D

The oven cost about £100-200 more than others in the range, but it was so worth it.

even the bottom of your oven is the self cleaning material? on ours only the sides are made of it

edit: NM im thinking of something entirely different :P

on ours if you set the oven to the highesty temprature and leave it for a few hours the sides of the oven will clean themself as they are made from some type of material that aborbs grease etc and then it comes out as ash residue when you leave your oven on the max temp

We have a pyrolitic function which I used for the first time at the weekend after cooking a chicken. A quick wipe after left the inside spotless EXCEPT for the inside of the door which now has some nearly-impossible-to-remove burnt chicken grease on it :(

The door on my oven is designed differently to the norm and I don't get this problem. However, wouldn't it just be a case of detaching it, degreasing it?

This for the shelves

I was told to get a dishwasher tablet and just rub it around the oven. As the tablet hasn't been diluted it is quite a strong de-greaser...supposidly is meant to work wonders however I am yet to try it out.

Quite tempted to try some engine degreaser.....been using auto glym metal polish on the stainless steel hob and it works a right treat!!

Got this job to do this week, ergh! Usually just get some metal scraper device and get the muscles going!
