Mordaunt Short Alumni 2 or Gale Silver Monitors.

I have just basically been given a brand new pair of Mordaunt Short Alumni 2 speakers due to a retailer being a thoroughly good sport when I queried a price drop of an AV Receiver I purchased just days before. (technically they did not have to do anything, yet they gave me goods equal to the price drop which included the Alumni's)

What I want to know is, are the Mordaunt Shorts better quality than the Silver Monitors I currently have hooked up to a Cambridge Audio Topaz AM5 stereo amp which is used for my PC. My sound-card is the Essence STX.

Is it worth swapping out the Gales for the Mordaunts and using the Gales elsewhere?

might be better to ask over at avforums or the yank site head-fi.org with them been more hi-fi realated than pc . sorry can't help more, some 1 may help but think u get more of a responce there

Looking at the specs, the Gales seem to go lower. Rated at 63Hz , whereas the Alumni's are 100Hz. Alumni's are designed be satellite speakers paired with a subwoofer, whether or not they offer better overall sound quality though, well I guess you will soon find out. :)

I used to have a pair of silver monitors and they had a fair bit of punch.

If you've got an AV receiver and are using it with 5.1 for example, might be worth using the MS's for AV and using the Gales for music in another setup.

I have Kef 3005SE in a 7.1 which are superior to both the Gales and Alumni's. I might chuck them into a 9.1 setup if nothing else comes up.
