It would seem i need a little help to "get it", I confess i mostly play multiplayer games with relativley simple objectives, kill the baddies, plant the bomb, hold this position, defend that M-COM you know the ones, well i got the STALKER series in the Steam sale, after having it recommended to me after really enjoying Metro 2033 (which i thought was awesome tbh) my problem is i just don't seem to "get it" i thought i had graphics problem/glitch to start with, turns out they are anomalies and are quite frequent  and an infinate supply of bolts  so it would appear my hand needs holding somewhat, i just really feel like a n00b playing this game, I have had a look for some help from Google but only really dig up the story of how the "zone" became, so, any help on how i can enjoy this game rather than just feel at a loss with it?

I tried to get it myself, and failed with all 3 games :(, dunno if you know but theres a graphics overhaul mod for all 3 games, makes a nice difference

It took me three attempts before getting into the first Stalker. In the end it was the Complete mod that did the trick by overhauling everything and fixing a bunch of bugs:

The ai's still basic and the combat is a little flakey, but the atmosphere is up there with a very best i've experienced in video gaming. Give it a few hours and go explore - I suspect the Zone will take you eventually.

Forgot it also fixed bugs, might have too give it another try

I'll try it again. I won it a few years ago on a forum game and I found it too hard.

I'll try it with the Complete mod as I now have a PC that should run it on max.

Thanks for the reply's, so glad it's not just me then, will deffo stick with it and give it a proper go, with the mod, does the mod install ok to Steam version?

ive restarted this game about 10 times. I get into the same area and end up stop playing. I foudn it real hard to. I havent ever got to the 2nd level/mao.

On the original, I got to the highly eradidated zone where your only option seems to be to run down this high sided road and just heal as you go and killing two soldiers on the way. After that I eventually went into an underground compound where I was getting mind killed and I didn't have enough health packs to get to the stop level intime to (I think) switch off a machine or something. I gave up after many days of trying lol.

I haven't tried the complete mod so might reinstall the original and have another go :-)

I also thought the graphics would be better in Clear Sky to be brutally honest, but I'm sticking with it.

The one bug bear I have, is that trying to do things in your inventory, the mouse clicks do not always register.. it's REALLY annoying.

+1 for the 'Complete' mod recommendation. Other mods for future reference are 'Lurk' and 'Oblivion Lost' (my favourite so far). There are several others as well.

As above, don't play without the Complete mod.

I originally tried to get into this and failed miserably and gave up. Waited a few years and had another go, this time it worked for me.

The game doesn't really hold your hand and sort of lets you run out and do your own thing. If you feel like it you can just stay in the same section collecting stuff and selling it and ignore the storyline, and at the same time it is easy to stroll into areas you shouldn't be going into yet because the game is so open. It takes getting used to at first but I personally really liked it. As above the atmosphere is very well done, the graphics are pretty good and the game is very enjoyable.

I noticed a couple of the 'side missions' I took required me to get quite close to areas of the map I clearly had no business going to yet, so watch out for that. My first game I had to kill some of those big boar animals near the start, and ended up (somehow) running into an army patrol and getting ripped apart :p

i am playing 1st one with complette 2009 mod.

I get to the area on 1st map which is at top left? YOu have some fights in buildigns and then go underground. Thats as far as I got and cant remember much more. Im always struggling for ammo and health packs on normal so I think I will play on easy which I hate to do tbh.
