Ok, so just moved into a rented place for a work placement in the middle of my degree, and after looking into contents insurance (mainly for my PC) I noticed due to my PC, I will have issues getting the proper cover (due to insurance companies being stupid, and classing a tower, and monitors as a single unit, and thus increasing the single item value) So are there any good insurance companies that will cover just the PC for me (tower is a little shy of £1500, monitors upto another £400-£500 probably)?

Cheers :)

Why would you have problems getting proper cover?

Just get a firm who will allow you to agree a pre valuation on something, your PC for example.

Loads do it.

Nevett & Taylor cover my MBP, separately to my home insurance. It's not that expensive, and means I don't have to claim on (and thus increase the premiums of) my home insurance if I have a boo-boo involving my tech.

I'm sure there's a hundred others who do the same, which may be worth considering over just home insurance. :)

It's not so much I can't get the cover, just that due to the value, the single item limit has to be raised, which increases the premium a lot, as they don't seem to be able to add it a specific item, which is exempt from the single item limit, as I have heard some companies do.

I wish it was that simple, however with the few companies I have rung, they can't do that. Care to give me some examples of places to try if there are so many?

Cheers for the that :) I've submitted a request on their site for a quote, so hopefully they'll get back to me tomorrow :)

Personally I'd go to a broker - ours is ace - it saves us time and money by getting the grunt work done for us!

Go to a few, tell them what you need, see what they can offer!

Seems like I'll be going with these people afterall. Got a quote off them, £100 to cover upto £3k worth of gear (as long as I can find the receipts) until the end of my degree (3 years) Hopefully I'll never actually need to use them, but it's not a huge amount of money for quite a bit of cover, for quite a while.

a lot of them have gadget cover, jsut call around and ask, normally if it is under £2500 they just ask for purchase reciepts if it goes to hell...
