are there 'gangs' in the area you live?

No gangs that I've noticed, but it wouldn't surprise me if some of the oiks round here carry knives. Probably not to actually stab anyone with, just to threaten other youths with so they can nick their wallets and phones. I wouldn't want to be a teenager growing up round here any more.

Having said there are no gangs, there was a teenage stabbing a few years ago. Apparently a gang had come in from Lewisham which is on one of the bus routes.

i'm not naive enough to not know that gangs and knife crime doesn't exist in this country but i can't quite get my head around the difference in scale. there are groups of people i see in my local town on a friday, saturday night but there are not groups of people hanging around in gangs everynight etc and i've never seen a gang chase a 'rival'.
i have just seen a crimewatch story of a young coloured lad who was chased by a gang of youths on bikes with his brother. the younger brother escaped but the eldest was caught, assaulted, stabbed (so hard the blade broke off in his body) and killed.having never lived in a city, i'm lucky enough to not have first hand experience of it to the same extent one may do in a city.
do any other members see this kind of activity on a regular basis? ie gangs, hanging around and acting in such a way as i have mentioned above? do the police or local community not do anything to try and combat this?

yeah, it's all true...all you mention really does happen!...

I live in CR8 which is full of old people and Indians.
The worst things that happen here are the DPD guys who chuck parcels everywhere and the odd stray chav.

Wait, I remember sumner road. That's the bit in west Croydon near the youth centre. Someone tried to mug me and ended up apologising and den we was all like don't worry blad - we iz cool about dis. Den ma new homie Shanked some rich guy.

All true (except the shanking:))

That bit is near the Indian area where you have 100 phone unlocking stands, then you get to the bit with the chavs. Sound familiar?

BTW BTR, where do you live?

I was born and raised in Woolwich, London, then moved to Nottingham where I lived in St Anns, Mapperley and Forest Fields and then I moved back to Eltham in London, so yeah pretty much been gangs everywhere I have lived.

I think in Cambridge we have Broadway-esque gangs representing the colleges, nothing serious to speak of though :p (Broadway gangs on my mind as I just watched Scrubs!)

Nope, I live on a military base so I figure any ruffians would be dealt with rather quickly by the military police :p

That said, there are an awful lot of cadets here at the minute. They make me feel like a strange in my own home :(

Yeah as far as i know... Nice place up the road called Upminster (end of the district line) used to get massive gangs of local chavs and all kinds of C words from East London (and Asims mates J/k) Beating the crap out of each other over the common for the lulz.

Nope, and we certainly don't have any of these 'coloured' people you speak of!

:D

Mayday ROFL!!!!

Why aint you going to the Brighton meet >?

Work work work!!! Also, I'm a social recluse :) I never meet people face to face I've only talked to on the Internet :D

Are you with the RAF? which base are you at?

The military police are ****ing harsh! Back when I was a cadet one guy forgot his ROS (that's what they're called right?) book... He wasn't the same again...

Yep. The top secret base near Newquay :p

The most contact I've had with the Police was a ticket on my car when I left it outside my block for too long when unloading stuff :p
