hi guys

just need some advice on the best course of action here, im not too clued up on reg plates etc

ive ordered a new car and would like to put a personalised plate on it, plate will be on retention with certificate.

should i get the dealers to register it as a 61 plate first then in my own time transfer it over or get the dealer to put the personalised plate on when the car comes in?

there isn't any downsides by putting my plate straight on to the new car is there?

i,e devalue the car cos it didn't have a 61 plate registered to it or something mad like that?

thanks!

I'd rather have the 61 plate.

Then again I don't understand the logic behind 'look at me' plates anyway.

On a serious note, how would it possibly devalue the car?

Get the dealer to put the personalised plate straight on. My brother has done this on last three cars (only issue he had was with his last one where the dealer didn't send off the paper work so had it registered as an 11 plate for a few weeks till he got it swapped over).

What I did was drive car with v5 to dvla in chelmsford give them the v5, paperwork for the plate, tax disk + any fees. At the counter they give you a new tax disk.

Drive out of dvla to number plate place a few doors away, print plates and stick em on the car.

I don't see any downsides to putting one on any car to be honest, new or otherwise.
