Getting odd, I grumbled about school kids looking scruffy!

Whenever french student exchange kids came to our school, we used to pick on them for their terrible taste in shell-suits and naff-naff puffa jackets.

Well I was never that bad, cheap jeans and a shirt for me. Although I suppose I am English and not French, so the shell-suits never appealed!

If that was the case, I'd have been targetted. Monatary issues aside, I wasn't, and still not the least bit interested in the "latest trends", and believe that type of stuff is more for those who can't think for themselves, but have to be told what they "think".

I went to a very small school, think it probably makes it easier to target a particular person? Iuno, I'm all grown up now so it doesn't really bother me any more. Doing a lot better than anyone else in my year :p

Since the new tesco estate was built and the influx of people moving to this town over last 4-5 years (5000 house built so loads of people) the kids I have noticed have become very chavy? and you can over hear them speak and its 'bruv' this 'bruv' that. If you ask me its a sad state of affairs when kids want to emulate some badly spoken oinks from London or wherever they speak in that dreadful manner. My lovely little market town as been ruined by corporate monopolist social engineering and the X-factor generation.

Ba humbug !

I love my little market town, couldn't imagine it riddled with "bruvs".

Did have to warn one lad not to call me "bruv" once.

Meh, schools problem, they should be enforcing top buttons done up.

People do that here they get collared

It's not a new thing

When I was at school some 18-20 years ago we went through phases of wearing the skinny end of the tie, then wearing the fat end of the tie really short, then when we were allowed to use the equipment in the Science/CDT labs unsupervised resorted to burning and cutting off each others ties.

God I went through so many ties when I was 14-16.

Plus we used to wear black combat style trousers instead of school trousers and DM/Army boots instead of school shoes at various points.

It's all about sticking it to the man ;)

I think the uniform is a good idea. At my old school everyone up to sixth form wore the uniform and during the sixth form you could wear a suit of your choice, kept most people looking tidy but gave you a bit more freedom.

I don't see the point of uniforms really. Never had to wear one myself and bullying because of clothes was not an issue.

But I agree, either be strict when it comes to the rules or don't bother.

County High was UPPER class?! your must have been taught in a mud hut in which case the trainers were used for running away from any cattle near by!

Seriously, people got stabbed at my school.

I think it's an IT school now, or sports, I can't remember. Supposed to be one of the top 10 in the country. But that's just word of mouth, I could be wrong. I didn't go so what do I know? :p

How things have changed since my time!....I've also just realised my time was 10 years+ ago, when did I ever get this old :-(

Pretty much said.. would have been disciplined for that in my day (as we HAD to represent the school when to/from school).

LOL at being disciplined for how you wear your uniform outside of school :p

oh lawd, they let you wear a suit of your choice, now that's freedom!

Oi, nothing wrong with SWCHS :p Largely had a great time there, and it enabled me to move a long way away from Saffron Walden.

Why does everyone hate Saffron Walden? It's cute! Not a lot to do but we have a Wetherspoons :p

Imagine being a kid who only has 2 pairs of jeans and 5 t-shirts, would only take a few weeks for the other kids to cotton on to your limited wardrobe and make something of it.

You do indeed - I worked there for 9 months :p Some time ago now mind. I don't hate Walden as such, I lived there for 18 years, but last time I dropped back for a night I realised there's not much there for me any more. I do love going back to Cambridge though.

Probably because I'm relatively new, haven't had a chance to get bored of it just yet :p

Hated school uniform and still don't see the point in it.

I pretty much pushed the rules as much as I could. Wore trainers for years when I wasn't supposed to, no tie, polo shirts instead of proper shirt. A real rebel.
