I'm thinking about getting a battery grip for my D90 but the Nikon one is fairly expensive at £150. Has anyone got any other brand of battery grip for the D90 which works well?

I've found a Meike B7S Multi-Power Battery Grip For Nikon D80 D90 on eBay which is only £48 - anyone used this brand?
The seller is listed as a UK seller although appears to be in Hong Kong, they have very good feedback. Hmmm.

I only use branded matching gear when buying batteries and grips, given that these are vital components. You know you're getting a quality item (usually) and buying from reputable dealer lessens the risk of buying a lemon.

If you really have to save the cash maybe try the rainforest for aftermarket options perhaps over the bay.

i have a meike grip for my d90 - cost about £30 or so without batteries (i had spares already)..does the job fine. I think if i was upgrading to a d700 / d3 type - then i'd fork out for an official grip, but in all honestly the meike one for the d90 is fine and i'm sure you'll be happy with it. If you're not, then just sell it for a very small loss and get an official one..

the £48 one is the one with 2 unofficial batteries, right? You can just get it for cheaper without batteries for less than 30.

In operation there is absolutely no difference what so ever but the Nikon grip does have that 'built better' feel about it.

Having played with them both, I'd still get the Meike everytime.

I have never handled the Meike D90 grip, but I do have both the MB-D10 and Meike equivalent that I use on my D300/D700 combo.

Basically, they are very hard to distinguish, and build quality of the Meike is within a hairs breadth of the Nikon MB-D10. The Meike also matches perfectly in terms of texture and colour, and more importantly functions perfectly on my D300/D700 increasing the FPS to 8 the same as the Nikon grip does. The vertical shutter button isn't quite as pronounced as the Nikon, but that's the only difference I can feel.

I would get another no worries, especially when the Meike cost me £59 and the Nikon MB-D10 was over £200...

So, Meike are one of the few 3rd party grips I'd use on my Nikon's. I don't think you'll have any issues, especially as the D90 grip just brings more power and a vertical shutter function, and nothing more complex.

Thanks for all the replies :), think I'll give the Meike a go. It should be fine but if it's not, well I can just get the Nikon one.

OMG I was just going post the same question.
The Nikon grip is on the rain forest for £97 in UK.
It says it comes with an integrated 2800mah battery, is that a regular Nikon battery? ...plus your existing battery then fills the grip.
Ive been tinkering with getting the Opteka grip as it comes with 2 batteries, but unsure about quality if non-Nikon & AE/AF lock buttons.

What Ive learned so far is a battery grip does NOT increase the fps on a D90, only increases with D300s, D700.
Also use only Nikon branded batteries in the Nikon grip for some reason.
