Gypsy gang deliberately drowned pony.

hmmm ive seen numerous people do this with horses and traps and so on .

my guess is trying to wash it or have a laugh went bad couldnt do anything left it.

if you go to appleby horse fair you commonly see the horses in the water with people riding them and so on.

ive done it myself ;)

with a cart attached to it?

Gypsies should be wiped out entirely, they do nothing remotely useful and are just criminal gangs.

thats a bit of a bad stereotype, my dad who passed away when i was 11, was gypsy used to live in a caravan but never had horses, they are still people, dont go all hitler on us

Scanned the thread so I apologise if this has been covered, but is there any proof that it is gypsies that have done this? Other than a headline from the Daily Mail without being mentioned in the story?

last I heard it was just a gang of people!

you dont know full story do you could have been in shallow water to start with inexperienced and horse went funny got into trouble

news papers need to sell papers .

it is a regular thing and they been doing it for hundreds thousands of years.

there are bound to be accidents just like driving a car or anything else.

They drown horses at the Appleby Fair as well.

Poor horses look terrified in those pictures :(

how many per year die ?

how many go in river = 10000s

very small miniscule number . like said athletes die in races people die in cars . probably a accident . the only reason its getting any news is cause " Gypsy" is in it. so crying out loud for the gypo haters .

so many peoples opinions about gypsies, and i bet half of them dont even know any or anything about them, like i said, bad stereotyping....

Gypsies or not, accident or not, it's still a questionable situation with an unacceptable outcome.

I don't care for either spin, whether it's bias against gypsies for the sake of cultural attitudes or trying to pass off the event as an accident. The fact is a pony was driven into a lake with a cart attached. There's only one way this could've happened; events were facilitated by human involvement, deliberate or inadvertent.

At best, it's gross negligence and poor judgement, at worst, it's the merciless killing of an innocent animal.

I find it unacceptable and so should anyone else. I would hope the outcome of this situation is measures are put in place to prevent this from happening again (i.e. they are not allowed to keep horses again)

Why the hell would you even do that?

at a guess, the animal was ill and they could think of no better way of putting it down. As already said they won't pay for a vet to do it.

This seems more likely.

Other possibility is an accident, but if the reports of them beating it to make it stay in the water are believed, this is very unlikely.

Yes, damn those irish travellers, wipe them all out along with those pesky jews, the contents of the council estates and anybody else who doesn't meet your "approval" i guess ?

Speaking as somebody who is married to somebody descended from irish travelers (grand parents) there's a lot of stupid generalisations being made in here.

Agreed, people are jumping to conclusions.

But it is common for travellers to try and put a horse down by themselves rather than pay a vet's bill.

Seriously, what is wrong with people these days. Utter shocking.
"These days"? Animal Cruelty isn't a 21st century invention. Folk have been drowning and killing animals in other inhumane ways since the dawn of time for convenience and pleasure.
