See I have a problem win 7 will not detect my audigy soundcadr at all and I read this is a common issue.

Well I only use win 7 for direct x10+ exclsuive games.

Unitl I get soundcard issue solved Im stuck for recordign my guitar as I use my audigy plaitum.

So I have 2 thoughts?

I have c: (nealry empty only win 7 120gb free on 150gb) and I have d: (350gb free on 750gb which is mainly games and movies).

So should I either

1. Have xp and win 7 running on C:...is this possible?

2. Keep win 7 on C: and put win xp on D:

ALso will I have to chos which one to load each time PC boots via setup or new screen? how does it work

Cheers

You can install as many OS's as you like, but each one must have it's own partition. An HDD can have three partitions and each partition is treated as it's own hard drive.

You can have XP on the first as D and Windows 7 on the C drive, both can't be on the same partition.

When you boot up, you will see a screen to pick what OS to choose after 30 seconds (default) which you can change in BIOS, it will pick one itself which will be Windows 7.

h but Im confused because what if I want to and I do store a lot GB in my documents, such as donwloads and music and my music recordings.

Can I have xp in 10gb partition and save my documents on to the 2nd parition of 140gb?

If you understand me?

So I have 140gb win7

10gb xp

I boot up xp but can I save stuff into win7 my dowcuemts or not?

ah mayeb ill just split it 50/50...75gb on each partition should be fien If i save my games on my 750gb drive

who told you that ?

also i would leave atleast 15gb for xp if you are wanting to keep it small....if you are mainly going to game on xp then a lot of save data won't ask you where you want to save it but choose it itself.

Just download the Creative fix from their website. Win7 refuses to see my Xfi on a vanilla install, but downloading the fix resolves this issue and lets me install official Xfi drivers.

For my card, the download is called "Product Identification Module Update" (PID_W7PCAPP_US_2_11_01.exe) - search the Creative site for your model and you should find something similar.

Some good points but it's normally 4 primary partitions or 3 primary partitions & an extended partition (which it self can be broken up into however many partitions) :)

Windows will also label each partition with a separate drive letter, you could have c:Windows 7, d:Windows XP and e:documents & stuff (which could be shared on both os's).

you may find that using EasyBCD will help you a lot after installing the 2 OS's
if i remember right i think you should install XP first and then Windows 7 after and use EasyBCD from the windows 7 install to bring XP 'back' into the boot list (doing it the other way round is more complex)

however if you want both OS's at the same time then install windows 7 as the primary OS and then from the Win 7 install use a Virtual Machine program and install XP onto that (it important then XP goes onto the VM as it uses less resources so it can 'cope' better within the 'virtual machine')

my favorite is virtual box http://www.virtualbox.org/

and don't microsofts own 'XP mode' software because this is just BAD :)

It just detetcs no isntalled device. The fix is for that specific reason?

Well I have audigy 2 zs platinum I think? the one with the front panel. I serached ggogle and it seems a common problem never saw any fix

Dont just make a 10gig partial for xp, because your gona want to install windows updates and a few other things, so I'd make it 40GB or even more if you can...

Hard drives are cheap these days man, you can get 1TB for like £25.

Also yeah if you install xp on a seperate partition you can boot up into xp and then install and save all other files and programs on other hard drives, it makes no difference.
