Went away for a week - BIOS no longer retains settings

Short version:

-Went away to work for a little over a week
-Came home, BIOS has lost all settings
-Restored them all, rig boots just fine
-Next day, no settings again, restored boots just fine
-Same thing again today

Now I think there could have been a power surge during my time away as the breaker on my mini fridge was tripped. However the supply to my PC was never left on, so as far as I know even if there was a surge it shouldn't have been able to reach it anyway.

So, ideas I have:

- Faulty Battery (Why suddenly?, don't they usually show symptoms over weeks)
- Corrupt BIOS (Power surge? Virus/Worm?)

Any ideas from you guys?

Cheapest option first. Change the battery..

Well, the cheapest option would be to input the BIOS settings each time you boot

Cheap money wise but not mentally haha.

Are all the batteries the same or should I be looking for one specific to my board?

They usually take CR2032

It'll tell you in the manual, or search online for the spec. Though I doubt this will tell you the battery type.

Whilst looking for the battery type I happened to stumble on another thread with what sounds like the same problem I have. This guy had to re-flash the BIOS back to the original, I would try that but only the current BIOS works with my RAM and GPU's.

Once I shut my rig down I'll try get to the battery (funny feeling it's under the video cards) and grab the model.

How old is the mobo? Had to retire an Asus A7N8X once as a change of battery did nothing. Put it down to the BIOS chip giving up the ghost.

Less than 1 year I believe, I remember getting a week before the official release (Always good to know Russians :D).
