Hey guys, I've decided to sod it and build/buy myself a big rig,
got some money saved up and I'm thinking go all out and get myself either an eyefinity system or a 3D system,
It's gotta be from OCUK obviously. I'm thinking just get one of the prebuilt systems and maybe have a quick consultation with one of the boys from the shop about getting the most for my money,
THIS TOP AMD SYSTEM looks pretty sweet, but really I'm thinking I should go nvidia with THIS bad boy.

I don't think you can get eyefinity 3D can you?
I'd like one or the other... three screen eyefinity is the max I'd go cos 6 is silly in my opinion, puts the central objects like crosshairs right in the bezels.
But a nice big 3D screen like a 26" or something would be sweet also. Can't decide which I'd prefer.

Having a bit of a 12 year old boy moment, but yes what do you reckon.

At the point where I just want to spend some money, pro built so it's flawless, and will last me for a good long while playing everything full out. What do you guys reckon?

whats wrong with the one in your sig, crossfire the 5870, get a 24"/27"/30" Dell IPS monitor, a 128GB SSD, then wait for the new toys coming out Q4 2011 and Q1 2012

^^ This

The 6 core Phenom won't make any difference in gaming over your quad core. See if you can get another 5870 for a good price then spend the money on some huge stupid monitor (jealous!)

Yeah, if you have the rig in your signature, you should just get a big SSD and a second 5870, a few really nice screens (3 U2311Hs aren't a bad way to spend ~£600), and probably a new PSU to power two 5870s as a 650W will struggle.

Is there some particular upgrade you want?

yeah i wondered that after posting it :D
i was actually going to spec the 30" ones :p

if you really wanted to try eyefinity, then as hybrid suggested, 3 x 23" Dell IPS, given that crossfire 5870s could handle it.

then a nice 128GB SSD.

For an idea, Overclock3D puts Metro 2033 on 1920x1200 with 8xAA and DX11 at 125.3 FPS with CF'd 6990s. That's about a fifth as many pixels as a triple-2560 resolution, so you could hope for around ~25FPS with full eyecandy on Metro 2033. That's actually pretty impressive- it's roughly equivalent to a GTX 460 1GB or a 6850 on a normal screen.

If I keep my original system I might OC the phenom to about 3.8ghz.. I'm playing at 1080res and my rig can't handle GTA4 which is doing my nut in... I'm on stuff like Left 4 Dead 2, Fallout3, Bad Company 2 at the moment and things are running pretty much full out I think, but I want to get Crysis 2 and the new Dead Island game thing when it comes out and just go a bit nuts with pretty lighting effects etc.

So with CFd 6990s I could still only get 25fps in eyefinity?

25fps isnt gaming though is it, its not playable.
oh wait though i'd happily play at triple-1080res, i dont think i have room for 3x26inch+ monitors!
i reckon i'd get one of the all in one eyefinity monitors cos of the bezels

Bear in mind this is Metro 2033 with MAX settings. I also have a feeling that it was being hindered by the CPU at that stage, which may not be an issue with the higher resolution.

Metro 2033 is also far more demanding than 99.9% of games. I'd recommend a single 6990- or dual 6970s- for triple-screen 1080p Eyefinity. Most games actually can't take advantage of four GPUs (the 6990s having two each).

Eyefinity is, imo, the worst ever. Dont get much support with games and the drivers ATI do don't seem specified to deal with it. Wide screen gaming will be you safe haven untill you sell one of your monitors like I did and settle for high res, full spec, single monitor gaming! :D

I will say this, its the best thing ever for driving games like dirt 2.
