Family Values and eating at the table..

Nope.

I'm 20, live at home when not at uni, and my mum is a housewife. I'm not one of these people who are always out, so I see plenty of my mum during the day. My Dad comes home during the evening, ew often watch TV together, so I bond with him then. Sitting around table is good for people with a busy always going life style where you don't see much of each other, but I'm always seeing my parents, so if anything its nice to not be around all the time.

Plus, nothing really happens during the day that makes it worth sitting around the table to talk about. Country life style for the win :)

How the hell people can eat a dinner with a knife and fork while sitting on the settee is beyond me. Food bits all over the seat? Stomach cramps? Discusting tbh.

*Whoops! There goes another tayta down the back of the seat* <.< >.> *Keeps it there for later*

Are you so incapable of using a knife and fork and finding your own mouth that this is a true and accurate account of how you eat on a sofa? The way I eat is EXACTLY the same whether I'm sitting on the sofa or at the table.

Obviously I'm superhuman.

You're correct, it is a good thing. But it doesn't suddenly make everything alright.

You are right.. It's takes time. As I said in my OP, it's something we've done since the kids were sitting upright. They don't know anything else so talking openly comes easy for them. However, anything, no matter how small, is better than nothing and children should learn key development social skills.

We ate almost every night at the dining table when I was growing up.
I really liked it and thought it was really good quality family time. I like sitting down at the table and eating a meal, just wish I could do it more often now days.

Would want to do this with my kids one day :)

I find it annoying when im having a dinner whilst we are all sitting watching a film and then someone starts nattering on about some random thing. I much prefer a meal to be a time of quiet and just to enjoy the meal. So nope, not a fan really of conversations when having meals.

'I am smoking a fag!'

I hate it when ppl talk when ur having a meal, meal is time for quiet and watch somit while u eat. Ppl who talk are rude imo. And as the old saying goes, its rude to talk with your mouth full which is what u get when u have ppl talking at a table eating a meal.

It is possible to talk inbetween eating :p I hate it when people talk with their mouth full as well but it's not hard to avoid this, meals are generally social times:

What happens if you take a girl out for dinner?
Work function / business lunch?
Wedding?
Christmas party?

You can't just sit there and scowl at people :p

2/10 you got one at least

No not trolling. Just dont like it when ppl talk during dinner and im trying to watch the film i got to watch while having dinner.

I really dont think of a meal as a social thing.

We always eat dinner at the table together as a family. I think it's just a good thing to do, removes all the distractions of daily life and lets everyone sit and talk for a change.

Breakfast/Lunch/Takeout fair enough, eat where you like. But the main meal it's good to get together.

It does seem according to that survey that the habits of the lower classes are spreading :(

Elitism ftl.

Saying that, people calling supper dinner or tea irritates me :p Tea is a drink, tea time is something you have at 4pm where you drink tea and have cakes/biscuits!

Dinner by definition is the biggest meal of the day, so you can have dinner at lunch or even in the morning.

I hate it when people say:
ur
ppl
somit
its (should be "it's" as in short for "it is")
Starting a sentence with "And"
u

Your post could have good content but reading it makes me think you are a trolley pusher.

What makes it worse is that he's 29. :(

I'm not the biggest fan of group eating, especially when people are clapping their mouths and eating really loud, I find it disgusting.

I know adults who make this sound when they eat, adults!

When I'm at home I'll usually sit down with my folks for dinner and that was common throughout growing up for me, occasionally one or all of us might go and watch TV while eating but that was/is very rare especially now it's a treat for me to be home. I can't say that I always wanted to have that sort of sit down meal when I was growing up but now I'm glad that's how my parents did it.

I did when I was younger or I ate at the table with the children my mum looked after.

Now I eat in my room because my dad is working and my sister is doing teacher preparation so there is no point me sitting at a table on my own :p
