Hi, my parents are looking for a new pc.
it will be used for browsing the internet, using microsoft office.
what would you recommend?
smaller and quiter the better.

:)

Have a look at the Acer revo or the emachines equivilant :)

I personally wouldn't recommend this as an office computer. It is slightly under powered. All the power is in the GPU, designed at playback of HD video. It's perfect for a HTPC for this exact reason. However the CPU isn't powerful at all and will struggle with multitasking.

Something like an AMD Dual/Quad athlon, 4GB ram and a cheap AM3 board. Throw it in a £30 coolermaster case and it's a win win.

Do you have a budget in mind? Building it yourself?

Just specced this, no idea on budget, but it has a low profile "silent" GPU which should be good for graphical things like youtube and the web.

its just over £400, but you get everything, Windows 7, Hard Drive (500GB), a GPU, CPU, Case, 4GB RAM, PSU and a Monitor with a Mouse and Keyboard.

The case is personal choice, but i put this one in because it looks like a speaker, with the grills on the front. Low Profile and won't intrude when placed in their home.

Feel free to comment :) Spec can be amended if you have any of the items i have specced, like a monitor or Mouse/Keyboard.

its an mITX size, so its really tiny. however, it only has one PCIe slot, so if you were planning on adding a TV card or wireless card then this probably isnt for you (although you can get wireless internet via USB i believe)

you can get amd llano build for around £400
100W tdp,
cpu + gpu = APU
grpahics on par with hd6450 built it. Less parts, less hassle?

chuck it in a case like xigmatek (£30) , white one looks cool, can pretend its some sort of hybrid apple pc or something lol!

Corsair 430W PSU will be fine

1tb hard drive? or maybe 500gb upto you

4gb corsair RAM

after mArket cpu cooler maybe the hyper 212 plus can be had for 22 quid if budget allows.

No mouse, keyboard, monitor or OS...

And besides, if anything get Reapers's spec with the Lian Li Case and spray the case black, as that blue is atrocious :p
