its a 1.6hdi puegeot partner and currently claims fuel as expenses at 19ppm
HMRC Fuel Allowance 45p - employer giving lower - this allowed?

Seems like he owes the tax man money then - unless he's already paid tax on the 6ppm.
I'm not convinced that any pence per mile payment is valid in the eyes of HMRC! There is literally absolutely no mention at all of that in relation to commercial vehicles, only a flat tax liability.
I'd certainly be clarifying my position asap with my employer if I was him!
Got a decision to make myself. Currently I do about 800 business miles a month and get 38p a mile back. If find the expenses payments cover all my fuel I use (including what I use for private) and my annual insurance, tax and servicing payments.
Have been offered a company car and fuel card. Would mean I would be able to sell my poxy Swift and put the money towards my house deposit and then get a 'golf or similar' from work. Looking at the figures this will cost me about £1200 a year with the BIK with the fuel. If I don't take the company car I will likely get a small payrise c2k/year.
Clouding the issue is that my main place of work has been sold (is only 8 miles from me) and so my main site will become one 60 miles away, thus any trips to this site will be commuting and not business miles so my expenses would drop anyway. Looks like either way I'll be worse off than now. Will probably just take the company car.

I did some work at Open Day for uni the other day, apparently we can get fuel costs back @ 40p per mile so I filled in the form anyway. Looks like I could get more than double what I paid for the journey
Don't forget to include wear and tear before you come up with figures like that.
You will have taken a few fractions of a mm off your tyres, brought your next service a little closer, that sort of thing. It all adds up.
Yes indeed, people often forget that.
I get 45ppm and my fuel costs are generally around 20ppm so by the time i've done an oil and filter and got new tyres etc. due to the increase in miles i'm doing beyond just driving to work, i'll probably be coming out around even, maybe a few pence per mile up but nothing worth shouting about.
