Grr.. Been to two films now in two different cinemas where the lights are'nt turned down low enough to really enjoy the film. In both cases they were so bright I could almost read the magazine.

Last film I went to see last year, the lights went down and it was dark enough so I could'nt hardly see my fingers let alone read a mag..

Is this a new thing(when I asked I was told it was health and safety  ), or am I being over fussy?

Apparently ambient lighting is better for the cinema experience, as opposed to complete darkness.

To do with eye strain, really.

This is in two cinema's I've seen it in. They always used to have little green LED running lights that showed you where to go. I agree you need some ambient light(not like it's pitch dark) but not so much as it detracts from the screen.

enquire at the cinema?

Regular cinema goer, never found the lights any brighter or dimmer over the last few years.

They probably just put the wrong bulbs in. I gurantee the person who you asked just said the first thing that came into their head!

I had noticed this a while ago, I don't go to the cinema very often but it did seem like the lights on the ceiling were brighter the last few times I went. In my opinion all you should see is the screen so it sucks you in and you don't notice the spacks laughing at the mars bar advert.

This happened in the local odeon about 5 months ago. taken about 5 minutes in to the film before I went and said something turns out they had not switched off guy did it and everyone was happy.

Some cinema's are lighter / darker then others. Can't say it's bothered me at the two I attend regularly.
