Hi all,

I just wanted to check if any of you guys has this card and could share with me the temperatures with stock cooler?

Its my first nvidia so far and I read that fermi is really hot but I am kinda surprised how hot she really is.

My case airflow is pretty good and everything else stays cool but not this card.

I got on idle 37-38 Celsius and on load (3dmark 2011) about 75-81 peak

is this normal? If I put my finger on the cooler (with the 6 heatpipes)its not really hot, probably because of the fans. I got additionally 2 more 120mm fans below the card to pressure air to the card. on the other hand the black plate which is attached to the card is really fingerburn-hot.

thanks for your input

That's fairly standard for a GF110 chip. Don't worry - they're perfectly fine operating well into the 90s, but your cooler will stop it from getting that far (the fanspeed will slowly ramp up to keep the card below ~90C).

If I am running Battlefield BC 2 , the card goes constantly to 99/100 degree even though the fan is on 100%...thought the cooler is better than the stock one...

running on max settings with 32x CSAA ^^

That is very high, that would worry me tbh.

3D Mark 11 is very taxing on the GPU, i would have thought that would be your max temp, my 580 normally hits 70 max when playing BLOPs, so cant really understand why your GPU is hitting that temp

Do u have enough airflow on the card as like ReAPeR101 said that is quite high for a GTX 580. I have oc mine to 930 core for benching with stock cooler and it never goes above 85c but the fans are on max. If it is getting hot on max fans I would recommend flashing the card to unlock 100% fan.

the fan can run on 100% without flash.

i suggest that the heatsink is not good enough on the gpu or it has too much thermal grease ?

i know from a friend who has another 580gtx with stockcooler that there was a big amount of thermal grease on the gpu when he removed the cooler. he cleared the grease and applied his own thermal grease on it and saw that the cooler had no contact with the gpu because it was not enough grease on it, it needed an unusually high amount of grease to have contact with the cooler.....

usually you apply the grease wafer-thin. but on the gtx580 its 5 or more wafes to reach contact with the cooler...

That is certainly not normal. Possibilities are:

1. Very poor airflow through the case (would have to be extremely bad to cause this, since the card vents outside the case there is no "oven effect" buildup of heat).

2. The heatsink is clogged with dust and so can't dissipate heat (unlikely since it's fairly new?)

3. The fan is not spinning up correctly (easy to check)

4. The thermal connection between the GPU and the heatsink is poor.

It seems to me that option 4 is the most likely. To solve this you can either remove the cooler and re-apply thermal paste, and check that the heatsink is well seated. Or you can RMA it and have it replaced - if it's reaching 100C under load then it is definitely defective.

Yeah it's not normal. I wouldn't remove the heatsink as it voids warranty - I would consider if case airflow is sufficient. If you believe it's down to the card then it's faulty, get a refund.
