If you had £8000 to spend on a car, what would it be?

As someone who doesn't own a car, and has only owned really bad cars for that amount of money I'd be looking at;

Jaguar XJR series 5 (sanity says go for the V8)
Jaguar XJ12 series 3
Mazda MX5 1.8S series 2 (but don't spend £8k on one)
BMW 5 series (roughly like the one fox was waffling about, I'd try to find an estate one)
Alfa Romeo 75 (these don't cost £8k until you start pricing in redundancy)
Fiat Panda 100
a TVR and some life insurance

Tough one. If I had to pay to run it, Focus ST any day of the week.

If I could negate running costs, probably something Lancer Evo flavoured.

I had a bit of think about this. Its an awkward price point to me. It doesn't buy a good example of a blatant all rounder 4 door premium super saloon that I'd want, but its maybe a little too much money to messing around with Jap cars.

In reality I'd probably want more than one for this sort of budget, but if its got to be one, I'd be looking for:

I know I'm a bit bias, but they're awesome in their own special way :)

That being said, it think its impossible to beat the CL that clarkson got. Mental amount of car for money.

Lol there is only one winner here.

MG ZT 260, with a supercharger conversion giving 420bhp and a sound to die for.

Cant think of ANYthing else that comes close for the monies.

Sodding loads.

On HP output alone you've got the 98-02 XJR Jaguar, maybe a early XKR at a bit of a push, E39 M5s, etc.

And if you want to throw 'standard' and interior quality out of the window (which you obviously are by suggesting a jumped up Rover 75) we can name a long list of modified cars Japanese cars that will be queueing up around the block to give the Rover a bit of a kicking.

Convertible XJS.

I would hope to get a V12 but it would have to be a fairly average one at £8,000. An earlier 3.6 is more likely but still nearly as sexy.

The running costs/repairs could be fairly crippling.

I did have 8k to spend on a car - I bought a near-new Astra.

If I could go back I would get a 4-5 year old Fiesta or Corsa and pocket the change.

Hypothetical thread where people are mentioning Bentleys and S500 Mercs and you want a 5 year old Corsa? :(
