Scary in-car video from Japanese Tsunami

Scary, Difficult descision for the driver to make, stay in the car and hope for the best, or try and scramble /swim for higher ground.

I like the way the guy turns back to close his car door.

Terrible situation though, its so fast. I can't imagine what the worse off places were like.

That is incredible, how frightening!

Maybe it's just me trying to always find humour in the worst of times, but I did find it amusing that even 4 minutes into the video his windscreen wipers were still going. Quick, clear away the water!

Mental, you'd need to get out quick like that first bloke (who forgot to shut his door)... otherwise I think id ride it out in the car for as long as I could, not get on the roof of it (ala another fella in the video) as once you go from the slower water to the rapid stuff, odds are you are chucked in and then swamped by all the garbage.

Id love to see how he survived that in the end though.

The thing about this video is the driver was lucky, as he seemed to have a few fairly large buildings around him made out of brick, which may have helped with the speed of the water etc.

I doubt we would have seen this video if he was in an area where whole streets got washed away, because the car might of got trapped under the rubble.

I wonder what happened the guy who bailed out of the car? I would say his chances of living were low unless he got into one of the buildings and went for the roof.

That is terrifying.

Any Japanese speakers give us a translation? Particularly the script at the end. Doesn't look good for the guy :(

Why the hell did they just sit in the car when theres buildings around then?

Because it's all very easy thinking clearly and concisely on your couch watching the video .. but in real life shock is going to be playing a big part.

I read a story about the other big Tsunami about some guy who was sitting in his hotel room with his 2 kids watching Shrek. He says in under 10 seconds, they we're suddenly all completely underwater, with the room filled to the ceiling with water.

Him and his kids managed to swim out of the French doors , but can you imagine .. right now .. where-ever you are .. suddenly water is to the ceiling.
