Non-Steam games broken icons

Got a little issue with my Steam. All the non-Steam games I have added have broken icons like this:

Now, it should be showing as the small icon that the Warcraft III exe has, but isn't coming up at all for some reason. Even when I try and select it, nothing changes.

Any ideas? It used to work properly for me, but has broken ever since I re-installed Steam.

Works for me. :confused:

You can add whatever icon you want for any games that are just a shortcut though.

Right click game, Properties, Change Icon.

Yeah this works. I don't like it though. I wish there was a way to add proper grid images to non-Steam games so they don't look out of place.

Yeah, I tried to re-add them and it's still broken for me

Really annoying now. I might try to reinstall my Steam, and then re-add my mklink for the Steam apps folder. It's just a bit inconvenient really!

orderoftheflame, I tried to add a proper .ico file and it doesn't show anything. Doesn't event extract anything from the .exes

I will try a reinstall.

Reinstalled Steam, and still no joy. When I go to actually add a game, all the icons in that listing are totally broken. Not good

Anyone got any suggestions as to how to fix this? It's doing my head in. Shouldn't be like that. But given Steam doesn't even display the icons of programs in the "add non-Steam game" browser, seems like it's not going to be easy to fix

Ive had this before with fifa 11, are you adding any launch extensions or going back into the properties of the shortcut once youve added it? Or are you renaming what you would like the shortcut to be called? I notice you have a "The" in the name where the working one doesnt

Try adding it without changing anything, but if you goto the properties then out again i think it breaks it

Im not at my pc now but will have look later and report back with the solution

No launch properties added. And it breaks before I edit anything. The minute I add the shortcut, it is broken.

Like I said, if I go to "Add a game", then the browser comes up, none of the games/programs have working icons. They are all just white icons. It used to work for me a while ago, on my old install of Windows, before I moved to my SSD. I didn't really use the feature much. Now that I want to use it, nothing appears. It's so stupid, as I have no idea why it's doing it!

Probably better off posting this on the steam forums or making a ticket about it. Pretty clearly a bug with steam, and bugs can't get fixed if the devs don't know about it

I can't add anything sadly. If I add an image or anything, it just shows up blank

Damn it, I knew that was the case.

Here's hoping they will implement it some day, the Grid view is awesome and makes me want to play all the games I have but I end up switching to the normal view once the tenth of the library is made of non-steam games.

I guess I will just live with it for now. It can't be a Steam issue, as other people have the small icons working, so it must be an issue with my PC and my Steam

I never add anything non-steam due to such nonsense. Hopefully they will add more features one day.

Anyone know if there is a way to reset Steam, other than deleting the ClientRegistry file?

Delete everything except for Steam.exe and steamapps.

Run Steam.exe and let it rebuild itself.

Will give it a go. I am getting this when I go to add a non Steam game:

As you can see, none of the icons are appearing there. So definitely a problem

Reset Steam, still no solution. Very annoyed with this now.

Found one other person on the Steam forums who has had this issue for a while. Apparently is has persisted across various OS installs and Steam re-installs.

Anyone got any other ideas as to what could fix it?
