i know people are going to slate me on temps and vcore but i was just doing this to test what my chip can do it will be clocked down to 4.8 again below 1.38 when i get a chance to do so but its been on maximum intel burn test and over 24hour prime :) v1.415 volts

but im happy with the results and thats running on air spec of pc in my sig :)
 
disable overvolt pll
then i have it on:

ultra high
manual
350
Extreme
Extreme
manual voltage 1.415

ddr set to 1600

everything else on auto

i couldnt get 4.9 stable till i put 1850bios on it then that sorted a lot of stability

as for temps ive tried loads of coolers....

antec kuhler h620, kuhler box, freezer 13, silver arrow i dont really want to make a custom water loop just for the extra 100mhz so ill knock it back down to 4.8 when i get time to test it all
 
yeah i left it priming whist i was at work so had to close my window got back and it was like a sauna in there think thats what pushed it to 89c
 
yeah they are on the bay of e there on 3 times because i have 6 setups for sale and i only do a few every so often :)as it takes time to test them in prime, afew people have brought them straight off so thats why they keep disapearing off there ;)
 
You say you put 1850 bios on??? when i run the asus bios update it finds nothing. im on the 0501 bios right now but z68 asus pro mobo. is the bios im on the newest one?
 
Well i was going to make a new thread for this, but maybe you can help gaz.

Hey guys, ive put a few posts up over the past week whilst testing my new system. And as ive said, im having to use silly volts to get high overclocks. My system is in sig, but i was wondering maybe a bios update could help a little? ive read some people are finding updating there bios can help with the volts, letting them run a little lower. Im really unsure though as you if the latest bios is already on my system already, with the board and setup being so new.
The bios now i have is version 0501 according to Asus suite 2 update screen. If i let it search for a newer bios it finds nothing. But then i looked on asus website and i may be wrong, but isnt this a newer one?

Any help would be great guys, also ive never actually changed a bios so any advice on that would be really handy thanks.

The latest stable bios is 0501, though there is 0651 Beta available on the asus spec page, but it doesn't say whats changed, most speculate its a fix for some corsair SSD lock ups.

The 0501 bios doesn't say anything about OC'ing.

I have pretty much the same setup as you, I took it upto 4.4ghz with relative ease, with a 103 blk x43 multiplier @ 1.29v on 0401, you might have just been unlucky with your chip
 
disable the hyperthreading so then you only have 4 treads that will make it run on lower volts but the chip isnt in full use then :( does sound to me that your chip isnt capable of doing low volts
