Idiots who tailgate

Except the fire brigade will waste time looking for a baby that doesn't exist if you are involved in a pile-up...

LOL Wtf if there close enough to see the sign I think there close enough to notice no baby seat or witnesses saying there is no baby seat or baby.

Slam the anchors on then floor it, either they **** themselves and get annoyed (maybe even learn a lesson) or they **** themselves and hit you then your car gets repaired for free (useful if the rear bumper has scrapes) and they have a fault accident on their record which bumps up their insurance costs :P

Just do what i do. Tap the breaks a few times to tell the guy behind you're willing to slam the breaks. No chance for him/her to stop in time.

Do it all the time and it works. Either they back off. Or try overtaking me on the other side of the road when they get a chance which i try not to let them.

I hope you get caught doing this and then get banned forever. Not only are you risking your own life and the life of the person in the other car but potentially other innocent road users.

No doubt you will come back and claim you were "joking" too.

He cannot get caught/banned for that because he isn't doing anything wrong, its perfectly fine to alter your speed while driving, if the person behind has difficulty in reacting because they are dangerously close that's their fault not his.

One cool idea would be to display a compressed gas cylinder warning sign on the back that should make tailgater's think twice, however you could end up in trouble with the law if you don't have any on board.

thats BS

they aren't going to go on a sign in the back. They will ask witnesses and/or yourself if there was anybody else in the car.

Its not going to be "quick, we must run back to the buring remains of your car, i think i can make out the charred remains of a baby on board sign, there must be a baby on board !!!"

unless you're watching sirens.

The whole point of 'baby on board' signs is for the emergency services to look for a baby in the event the driver can't tell them there is/isn't a baby on board. Duh!

If the car is smouldering and they can't see in the back seat then the sign gives them the prompt to look.

No wonder every idiot leaves the 'baby on board' sign in the back of their car when there isn't one there!

Braking with the sole intent of causing an accident might be very, very difficult to prove but if the intent is there then that is enough for it to be dangerous driving.

In any case, I was referring to him trying to stop people overtaking him. Absolutely reckless and potentially fatal and something that, if an accident was caused, should result in a custodial sentence in my view.

Adjusted slightly to illustrate my point of view.

no the whole point of baby on board signs is a status symbol to brag to other motorists that they are parents.

Its never been about that.

go brake test your nearest police car then and see how you get on. I look forwarding to hearing of how there was nothing they could do because you were "adjusting your speed".

Deliberately braking harshly for no reason to try and brake test somebody and cause and accident WILL get you convicted of dangerous driving and a lengthy ban.

slow down... drop gears to slow down not brakes, so they get scared... that normally makes em drop back

That was the point of them, correct, seeing as though they've not been used properly since approximately 1 week after their conception i'm pretty sure the emergency services don't pay a blind bit of notice to them these days.

In that situation the police would only give you a warning because the video camera in their car that would be used to convict you would also show them driving dangerously close behind you so they wouldn't be stupid enough to try and take it to court.

Im not advocating the endangerment of innocent people here im advocating trying to scare some sense into people already committing dangerous driving (following too closely)

In the maybe 2 or 3 cases where I have had someone behind me in such a fashion that I couldn't ignore, i.e. where their actions were unreasonable given the circumstances (such as travelling in lane 3 on the motorway passing traffic on the left and with another car in front of me) I have done just this, but never to an extent where it would compromise my own safety or theirs. In every case, that has always provided an acceptable resolution to the situation.

The kind of person that brakes hard, moves out to stop others overtaking them etc etc are the people that are bemoaned on this very forum on a regular basis and amazingly are in this thread posting on an issue of safety whilst themselves committing offences substantially worse than the ones that send them into a fit of rage!!

Why are people unable to be dispassionate about the actual business of operating a vehicle? Why is there so much counterproductive vehemence towards anyone else on the roads without any modicum of introspection?

Nobody is perfect, I'm just suggesting that people ought to cut others some slack and expect that same courtesy in return.

I often wonder this. You wouldn't dream of slamming your anchors on on a bike. You either let them past or accelerate away.

I also wonder why drivers are so annoyed at the thought of letting more than one person into a gap when traffic merges. There's fifty cars in front, and yet one extra vehicle seems to make all the difference.

I just caught that again while rescanning the page and I think you misinterpreted what he said, he wasn't saying that he swerved along the road to stop overtakes or floored it when somebody attempted one just that he didn't give them the opportunity to overtake, there is nothing wrong with that, the only time you ever get an opportunity to overtake is when the person in front is going too slow or you are speeding.
