New open world PVP MMO Prime Battle For Dominus (DAOCish)

The official spokesperson for the game. Usually very active on the official forums and if they're any good, manages player expectations to avoid the kind of rage storms you so often see with the smallest change in an mmo.

She did a bang up job in DaoC for years, I'm sure she'll be well able.

Hmmm..... Looks interesting, nice little videos.

The ui and graphically very similar to wow (what isnt) so it still hinges on how good the pvp will be as to whether I would get this or not. Open world, pvp focused game equals a win for me.

Few things that looked good/sounded interesting;

-customisable armour, just a little thing but being able to colour armour adds to individuality.
- the jetpack looks interesring, being able to use that in battle would make things challenging.
- The targetting system is good, again quite simple but your character tracking the target is nicer than shooting sideways where you aren't even looking.
- No auto attack is good. Even normal attacks have to be carried out by yourself.
- the gathering system for crafting looks great, you plant one of your gatherers and they farm for you, you come and collect them after they are finished. Seems a nice method of working things, if you have a limited number of gatherers it will be important where you place them as it decides 24 hours worth of your material collection.

All in all as I said above very wowesque in setup and it's all down to the pvp for me.

out this year ;O really
?

Where does it say that?

That would be (suicidally) ambitious, rushed mmo's with WAR being the most obvious example, tend to fall flat due to lack of content. Though considering it has been under the radar so far it could be further along than we know.

in the faq ,

When will Prime Battle For Dominus launch?

Prime Battle For Dominus is targeted to launch in 2011.

Been keeping an eye on this one for a while after seeing mention of it on the DAoC boards. I'd still be playing DAoC if the community hadn't become so toxic.

any idea how long its been in development ? nothing in the faq :D , seems a bit mad to release this year with star wars coming out

Derp me :p

It seems a bold move trying to get it out this year. I think they would struggle in an initial match up with SWTOR, much more hype surrounding it, but if they stick to their guns and focus on a strong world pvp game it will build a large and strong following of it's own. Because let's face it I can't recall a pvp focused game coming out in a long time, offering something new rather than a twist on the old would seem a sounder business move to me. Though as a pvp game it would never compete numbers wise with a pve focused game, pve seems to be the new mmo generation favourite. Less skill and easier to win I guess (I know, a sly dig, but I couldn't help it :D :p)

It's factional PvP though, which is an entirely different ball game to open world gank-me while I'm levelling PvP that Darkfall and the like have.

This sounds a lot more like DaoC - home realms and frontiers. While I wouldn't ever consider a darkfall type game, I'll be all over this like a rash :)

Mention DAoC & I'll come along drooling :)

3 factions? Open PvP?

I'm in.
This... Very much this... :)

Actually its look reminds me of WAR - wouldn't surprise me to find the same basic engine underneath.

My main concern (although it could be fine depending on netcode) from the FAQ is

Q/ Where are the servers located?
A/ Phoenix, Arizona

Looks good on paper. Graphics don't bother me, I was a hardcore Shadowbane (best MMO I have played, ever.) player, and it had terrible graphics.

This is what I meant :p

I just find it even more tempting not being 1v1 one faction gets the advantage? The other 2 will team up and spank them for a while until things even out. Great fun :D

I just hope they go primarily pvp as seems hinted at and not try and join in the mainstream. Would be disapointed with another instanced pvp borefest! :p

http://www.primeonline.com/game/combat/

The more I read the more this game interests/excites me. Couple of quotes from the article which is about the combat side of things;

We don't pair off small teams and load you into a map with a contrived goal. We envision hundreds, even thousands of players vying for control of key areas.

there are a few "instanced" pve Areas that require a small group of 6 players, but Most of Prime's encounters are open world and therefore up to the players themselves to decide how many players should compromise the group.

Great news if they stick to it! Large open world pvp with no instanced battlegrounds rubbish. Even better is if world quests/bosses/instances are implemented rather than "dungeons." this would get people fighting in the world to achieve pve objectives, even more people having to get involved in things :D

(in regard to dying in pvp) Of greater consequence is the fact that any harvested resources the player was carrying will remain on that players corpse, and be lootable by the opposing factions.

Great news to me, people will need to be careful when out farming professions and be tactical about things. Also it's good to have a death penalty, makes people think about pvp and gives actions a consequence.

Good stuff so far :)

Wow, that really sounds promising, they've definitely got DaoC in mind.

I like the death penalty too, not too severe, but enough to make you cautious. Also enough to make you go out and PvP rather than gathering your own resources :D

ok i've spent a few hours going over the details on the site and could this finally be a decent pvp mmo ? sure sounds like it. Although SWTOR looked fantastic when they first released details about it.
