Alcohol Dilemma - Plastic Bottles

Last weekend I went to a festival and took a rather large stash of drink, which I decanted into plastic bottles.

Sadly, due to such excessive drinking on the first day, I couldn't stomach drinking any more and nor could my company, so I returned home with said plastic bottles, which have been sat in my room.

Yesterday I was told that alcohol isn't stored in plastic because it takes away the chemicals and makes it undrinkable, or worse, toxic (not that alcohol isn't that anyway!).

I have since decanted half of it back into a wine bottle, but there is still more to go.

Have I left it too late or will it be fine?

Thanks :)

EDIT - I am referring to 40% spirits.

You know the bottles of cider chavvy kids and tramps drink... they're not made of glass....

If you ferment your own wine at home u can use plastic demi jars

plastic beer brewing kits are normal

cheap wine sold in boxes is stored inside the box in a plastic baldder

Weak.

Im sure the alcohol will be fine though.

I know... but I had around 400ml of vodka and 5 or so pints - really not clever. Next day was mostly spent in my tent trying not to die.

At least this time I didn't do my festival special trick of waking up thirsty, reaching for my water bottle, taking a big swig and getting a nasty surprise... :p

If you've managed to fit half of it back into a wine bottle, which is only 0.75l, then it follows that you've only got 0.75l left in plastic bottles, which at 40% means only 30 units of alcohol.

I can't see it being a problem within short timeframe it should be to finish that off, just make sure you drink it first before the stuff in the wine bottle.

I raise you 700ml vodka + 5 or so pints of strongbow. (Inb4 location:Glasgow).

To not die I just drank more alcohol the next morning.

Drank a lot more at T in the park this year than last year, and felt a lot better for it at times (didnt feel hungover as much).

Different drinks I'm afraid! A lot of it was gin for my hip flask, because gin is by far away the easiest spirit to drink neat in my book.

Thanks for all the replies :)
