Odd question I know as they are inherently team based games; but I am wondering what MMO's are fairly Solo friendly; most of my friends are console based gamers and I play at fairly erratic times...

Previously I was a bit of a City of Heroes MMO gamer - couple of Level 50 characters but it seems a bit dead now (hoping itll pick up when it goes FTP) - I am quite tempted to give DC Universe a go, much prefer the SciFi setting to that of elves/swords etc... and will def give Star Wars TOR a bash when it's out.

I just don't want to invest some time into a game and struggle to get anywhere as on my jack jones

Lord of the Rings.

Don't think I ever grouped playing that and hit level 25-30 by myself so can't comment after that. There are some mission where its wise to group up, but if you wait a couple of levels you can easily play them yourself.

The Free aspect is good but bows and arrows and horses and crap don't really do it for me...

I am watching quite a few DC Universe Videos; anyone got any experience of that as a Solo Player - a fan of DC and the story arcs it offers; more tempting despite the added cost.

1- 30 solo in DC:UO is how you are forced to play, that will take you about 3-4 days though, then its all about grouping up to chase gear. Shame was a good run till 30

Can easily solo 95% of the content of rift .. great fun as well . refreshing change from WOW .. But like any mmo need to start grouping for gear at 50

Lord of the Rings is good for solo play. Having kids and a wife means I don't have the flexibility to commit to raids, group play etc.

Good thing about LOTRO is that there is plenty of opportunity for grouping up when I get a rare chance so it's the best of both worlds for me.

I've not personnel played it but the impressions I get from the all MMOs blog is it lacks long term appeal. So, might be good for the free month but probably not for much longer.

About solo friendly MMOs. They are all solo friendly nowadays. No one makes MMOs that are hard/impossible to solo.

They're parts where you will need a Fellowship in LoTRO, but the rest of the game is solo-able depending on your class.

Well that's a shame because I would've recommended Rift. I easily hit the cap solo and it's a bloody fantastic game too; one of the best I've ever played in fact.

But as someone else said, almost all of them are solo-friendly these days. In my opinion you'd be better off making a shortlist of four or five games depending on how much they appeal to you, then investigating how solo-friendly they all are. They will probably all be good for it.

You do know that CoH EU players now have a merged server list and can access ALL of the US servers?

wow, aoc, lotro???

I mean really anything released in the last 5 years will be incredibly solo friendly

I disagree about WoW. Yes you can get to max level solo, but to get any decent gear you MUST group up with others in parties or raids. This is coming from a hardcore WoW player who had to give it up due to family stuff. In the end, I could only play during the day and so got no raids or groups and it makes the game the feel very empty.

If you don't care at all about gear then WoW would be okay to solo, but I don't see why you'd not care about gear in a game that's all about the gear!

Definitely AoC, you can solo grind/quest to max level with no drama there, although you will of course need to team for some instances and to get the best gear.
Whether you like the game or not is another story though. But you can try it for free so nothing to lose.

Hellgates London is back on global servers. pretty much a solo game and u can choose to group up if you want to. of course if you want to play the whole game you'll have to spend $5 on the cash shop service to get the ticket for act3 and beyond, but thats about all the money u have to spend.

Eden Eternal, huge grindfest, but lots of stuff to do solo if you like Japanese Anime type MMO's (free to play too)
