I was just wondering, as a lot of insurance policies include water damage, have anyone been able to actually use this to get a payout if a WC system leaks? As it is still water damage... And even if they wouldn't normally cover it, it wouldn't actually be any different to if you spilt a drink or something on it.

Was just wondering, as I'm considering going WC, and it would be nice to know I have some form of cover if something goes wrong :p

would be covered under accidential damage clause, assuming its not during cleaning/maintaining the system as there are generally exclusions due to damage caused by cleaning/maintenance. Where i used to work we paid out on a claim for a wc system that leaked.

yup! it would probably be a pain to explain to someone who only knows the on button makes the computer turn on how it happened but there is no reason they should kick up a fuss if you have accidental damage cover!

what sort of hassel is it to make a claim? do you have to send the pc away for them to test? do you need to provide reciepts for everything also?

Well the people I've got insurance with is purely for my PC (rather than home contents etc) and to insure anything, they need the receipts before I start the policy (I can add stuff later on as well though) I'm guessing they'll need to inspect items if they are to be claimed under accidental damage, but obviously they couldn't if it's a claim for it being stolen :p

spose that makes sense. i just wouldnt want to have my pc taken away for god knows how long, to be valued by someone that probably has little knowledge of what parts are worth, and not be treated nicely.

My house insurance from Direct line wouldn't replace my laptop after it set onfire when my house was struck by lightning it was a £3000 rock direct SLI gaming laptop, In the end they offered me £400 laptop of a 10th the spec, Still ongoing with them now and it's been 18 months.

They will most likely want to send it to their Computer department, Which is full of slack jawed retards that don't actually know anything at all.

Good luck :)

Did you have the laptop specified in the policy?

All household insurance I've ever had required items above a certain value to be specifically listed.
