Hi,

My motherboard has recently stopped working, and I've been looking for a new one which will work with my latest hardware upgrades as well. I've been searching around, and at the risk of sounding stupid, I'm finding it hard to locate a good motherboard which is compatible with everything I already own.

My current specs, excluding the broken motherboard are:
Nvidia Geforce GTX 470 GPU
8GB RAM
Intel i5 CPU
1.5TB Harddrive
Extra USB ports
Corsair H50 CPU Cooler
5 Fans

I'd prefer not to spend way too much money, and my preferable price range would be between £50 - £100, but I understand if that isn't enough.

I know it is a little over your price, but well worth it from my point of view.
i have had no troubles with mine so far.

Er...

Hold fire before picking motherboards at random.

There are Socket 1155 and Socket 1156 i5's.

The OP needs to state what socket motherboard they require.

I doubt it's a Socket 1155 motherboard as those would still be under warranty.

OP please state which socket you require a motherboard for or, if you don't know, please state the exact model of the processor.

I'm really sorry, but I don't know where to find the information. I can't turn the desktop on to check, and when open up my case to take a look at the CPU on the current motherboard there are no obvious signs to model number.

I 'think' it was the Intel Core i5 760, as it was running at 2.80GHz. Would it make a huge different if it were a different i5 CPU?

What you say makes sense as the i5 760 runs at 2.8GHz.

If it is an i5 760 then you want a Socket 1156 motherboard.

The motherboard prt rashly linked to is Socket 1155 so is of no use.

The next question is do you want an ATX or microATX motherboard?

An ATX motherboard is 305mm x 244mm.

A microATX motherboard is 244mm x 244mm.

Have a quick measure of the one you have now.

On a final note, how old is the motherboard you have now?

They usually have a 2/3 year warranty.

The motherboard I have now is an ATX motherboard, it's also around 2 years old, but I believe the company I bought the original desktop from has shut down (Cube 247) as I can't find their website any more.

I will still look into the warranty at some point, though I'm not hopeful about it.

You don't need the company you bought the PC from.

Tell me the make (and model if you can see it) of your motherboard - Asus, MSI, Gigabyte or whoever.

It was bound to be an odd one.

The big manufacturers have facilities to check the warranty based on the serial number but I can't find anything like that for Biostar.

Best I can find is this support page if you want to drop them a line.

Anyway, back to your original question.

The only new Socket 1156 ATX board at overclockers for less than £100 is this one:

Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard

They do have some B Grade for £55.16:

**B Grade** Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard

The thing with B Grade is that you might just receive the bare motherboard. No manuals, cables, rear I/O plate etc.

Remember that these aren't SLI compatible so you can't add a second GTX 470 if you were thinking of that.

I think that first one you sent looks perfect for me, and £82 is also around the price I was looking for; I'll most likely order that one, thanks a ton for the help!
