Course fishing

I go coarse fishing on the very odd occasion. My dad's a good angler.

He goes most often to Boston Spa (river, not lake) but has found a closer place he's going to check out.

I can't think of anything more boring than standing around watching people fish. It'd be worse than golf.

I do mate...... however this is the first year in about 15 that I haven't got my rod licence yet as I just have not had time to get on the bank!

As far as favourite lakes go - anywhere that is not overly busy!

Its harder and harder to properly 'get away' and still catch some fish!

I'm an extremely coarse angler and events like fishamania are an anathema to me, give me remote countryside with not a soul or man made structure in sight any day. The fish I catch are wild not bred to be contained in an overcrowded man made hole full of water where anglers baits are the only source of food.

My mate's mate won the big £30,000 match at Fishomania at the weekend. He is just a normal angler and was the only person in the final not sponsored/paid.

Yeh, Andy May done well. It's rumored he got told exactly how to fish it by the guy sitting next to him, the guy sitting next to him actually put a bet on him too! Also took a 5K share of the winnings.....

match angling != coarse angling.

I was talking about another guy though not Andy May who is a pro. He did well but got a bit lucky from what my angler friends said. When he got drawn for peg 1 all the experts dismissed him especially with him being an "amateur" and all of them said either peg 8 or 16 would win due to the wind, conditions etc.

As it was he won by 20 kilos which isn't just a win, it was a pasting!

haha this is exactly what the Mrs says although it's usually extended to watching Spurs :/

I normally venture out this time of year and get a few overnights in as well. We live in a plentiful area of good lakes and rivers, plus Hanningfield reservoir is only a few miles away. I can't really justify the time away just to be fishing .. not with such a young family but a day is fine.

I'm a carp angler from Kent. Have joined a new set of lakes this year after being ground down by the club lakes I've been fishing on since I started getting into it. Am enjoying the change and have caught a few fish in the process, too!

My favourite lake is where I'm fishing on a quarry site in Faversham.

So what venues do you visit?

Quiet ones and I won't mention any names because I wish them to remain that way.
Theres plenty of out the way places about, you just have to do a bit of groundwork to sort them out.

Hey swinnie, I've done many years of carping in Kent and I fully understand how you got ground down, you got a Sittingbourne ticket ;)
