I'm hearing great things about this app, and I quote:

"Installed Juice Defender Ultimate last night with Night Mode enabled on Customise profile and today I noticed there was no battery drain, it was 31% last night and the same today morning after 9 hours. With Advanced Task Killer it was around 2-3%. "

So I think I should get this and don't mind buying one of them. Which do I need, do they all give the same amount of extra battery life, and does it extend battery life through usage or only through idle? I'm currently on 2 days 14 hours 20 minutes with 30% battery left on pretty minimal use, so would juice defender likely give me higher % for the same amount of uptime?

It's un-needed (there's an argument that it was never needed though). Also with no battery drain over 9 hours the phone would have had to shut down all radio functions unless he's devised a new way of broadcasting with cell towers the industry has never heard of - the phone might as well have been turned off. If that's all you want then timeriffic can shut down data over night for free without killing Calls/SMS/MMS.

I use Green Power and it does incerase battery life. Juice Defender is known for not restoring connecitons on phone wakeup, whereas Green Power works every time for me. :)

ok, thanks for saving me money then guys.

Cool, I'll use that then. You use the free one?

Got Ultimate but don't use it tbh, no doubt it works and saves a load of battery life but each time I unlock my phone its very sluggish for a good 10 seconds as everything gets reactivated (Desire HD).

I have Ultimate, and it makes an absolutely massive difference on my SGS. The free one is okay, but as it doesn't manage wifi it's not really going to give you the full benefit. The app says it just about doubles my battery life, and from my own estimates that's about right. With light-moderate use, I tend only to need to charge every other day, and it was needing a charge nightly pre-JD.

Can only speak from my own experience, but tbh it would be amongst my very favourite apps for the difference it makes to my battery.

I guess it boils down to how much you micro-manage your phone.

I only turn wifi one when I plan on using it, I switch to Flight Mode when on the tube to stop the cell standby drain, I turn off the data and 3g when in a low reception area and not needing it. I don't sync stuff, and froze all the stuff I don't use.

I have wi-fi off all the time, except the very rare times I'm ever in a wi-fi spot or at one of the places I work where they kindly gave me their password so I can watch iplayer or download games. I also only have bluetooth on now and again if I'm in the car to make calls via my headset. GPS again, only whenever I need the satnav (naturally) which isn't a lot at the moment. I also have power saving mode on from 50% battery life. With that in mind, am I going to see much benefit with ultimate or does it appear I'm already managing my phone well enough?

Well, if you don't want wifi to manage itself, as it were, then you might well find the free version does enough for you. I like the features of ultimate, but the one main reason I bought it over free was for the wifi management. I do now like the scheduling and app management, but I could live without them, tbh.

I use Juice defender and it's doing a pretty good job, mainly because it saves me having to do most of what you do yourself, it turns the wifi off when I'm at work so I don't have to, it turns off the 3G when my phone is sat around doing nothing etc I find it brilliantly convenient but then I'm a lazy phone user who just wants it to work with out me faffing.

Would Juice Defender or Green Power allow me to:

- Auto-switch to 2G whenever there is an active WiFi connection
- Enable/disable 3G based on location?

Cheers,

Suman

I use Llama for location Wifi management, and combine it with WiFi unlocker to disable the lock screen when connected to my home network.
