Up to £300 to spend in a new card ?

£300 is right in the middle of a lot of cards i would personally if i was you save a Extra £60 up and go for one of these 580 SE as that is a Killer of a Card how ever im sure the ATI lot will be along soon to suggest a ATI card to you ( i honestly dont know about ATI cards)

Keep an eye out for the MSI GTX 580 Twin FrozR II/OC 1.5GB, I got mine for £335 inc P&P from somewhere on a one day special last week.

I have mine clocked at MSI GTX 580 Lightning stock speeds which costs £100 more! at idle it runs at 34°C and in games no more than around 60°C.

One thing I love about these Nvidia cards is when you watch a video or youtube it doesnt hog the power i.e. stays idle low volts/clocks, where as my AMD/ATI 6950 would jump to load volts/clocks and ramp up fan speed.

It's up to how much you want to spend. If you want about £200's worth of kit, the 6950 Twin Frozr is a great card and going cheap at the moment.

Using MSI's bios you can flash the card to a 6970 if you want, getting you a £280 card for £200, but of course only if you want to delve into the guts of the thing.

For £250 the GTX570 is a good bet. It is faster than the 6950, but then that's where the £50 premium goes :) I've always been a little wary of getting the GTX570 at this point due to it having 1280mb of ram instead of 1.5 or 2, but depending on what games you play/screen you run this may not make much of a difference

£300 is in the middle of nowhere. I'd say £200 for an HD6950 2GB, sell it when the 28nm cards are released, and buy a 28nm card.

I have to Agree the £300 is a bit in the Middle of two performance points, as above and my original post get a £200 card that will last you a while or go full bore get the 580 and be done with it for the next 2-3 years happily

I got one of those gtx580's too but decided to cancel the order, wish in a way i didnt, is it quiet even under load? I may order another when they pop up again as ive seen them at that price a few times now

Unless you have more than one monitor connected to the card. If you do you're still forced to run at 3D clocks the whole time. Been like that since the 8800's, ridiculous that NVIDIA haven't addressed that yet.
