Hi guys,

ss20110719034631.jpg

I've been having my first go at an OC on my SB rig.

I'm only on stock cooling. How do my figures look.

Vcore is on auto and doesn't go above 1.240
Dram I tweaked down to 1.590 at 1600Mhz
I have spread spectrum disabled
Are my volts quite low, considering most people hit the 1.3-1.35 range on their overclocks.

The screen shot is under Prime95 blend. Is it getting too hot?
Max temp at load 82 C
temp at idle 35 - 40

I also seemed to overlook a 3rd party cooler for my new build.

Is this a necessity when oc'ing?
Any recommendations and would I be able to get a 4.4 - 4.6 OC ?

Thanks,

G

Your load temperatures are already at the limit of where they should be so I wouldn't push any further without a decent cooler.

Voltage is OK.

When you mention the 1.3-1.35V that "most people hit" that's for overclocks quite a bit higher than 4.2GHz.

most people can get to 4GHz on stock cooler, over that is hit or miss.
the one people rate highest is the Silver Arrow, which i personally went for too and is arriving today, it seems to be the best aircooler £ for £. other than that would be a custom water cooling setup, but that is costly.

most chips will be good to 4.5GHz, its 4.6GHz where some chips seem to require a massive vcore jump.

mine is sat at 4.4GHz for the moment as my cooler isnt too good, but when the Silver Arrow arrives i will aim to go higher.

a lot of people have the same mobo/cpu setup as you, so feel free to ask anything, everyone is always happy to help.

my Freezer 7 hits those temps @3.8GHz-4.5GHz, it only seems to go up when i aim for the 4.6GHz, but between them the temps hardly changes, so i would rule out being able to go higher with the stock cooler (bearing in mind your computer will never be running all 4 cores @100% load in real world use)

Paradisiac

Sorry to reopen this one up, i have just purchased the exact same setup,

guessing your silver arrow has arrived i was wondering if you was able to get your cpu clocked over 4.4ghz

will be needing someones assistance when i set mine up with overclocking as im new to this.

mine is now running @ 4.8GHz with temps around 75-82c under full load (prime/IBT testing) and around 60-64c whilst gaming :)

is that using the Asrock tuning facility shown above or not?

it is at the moment (but the bios version not windows) but i did manually set it up @ 4.8GHz before which was stable, just after a bios reset when swapping over my gfx cards i couldnt be bothered changing it all again. just whacked auto oc to 4.8GHz and upped vcore to 1.39v.

Sorry to re-open this again

this is my first overclocking experience, and could do with some assistance if anyone is in the christmas spirit and willing to help

Try the search in the toolbar if no-one helps/puts links up. Been lots of people asked for help with the E4G3 and lots of replies and even a few picture guides thrown up in the last few months. Also remember google is your friend ;)
