Hiya. :)

Lately I've been thinking about getting a new, somewhat decent gaming computer. Since I'm from Sweden, I looked up all the different parts on a swedish website at first, and got a second opinion from a friend of mine, saying it was decent. The built ended up at roughly £500. The other day I decided to look up the prices on english websites though, and came to the conclusion I could save quite a bit buying from Overclockers, and also Amazon since I couldn't find all the parts. So now, if possible, I would love to hear a few more opinions about the build, what could be improved etc. :)

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
Corsair Builder Series CX 600W V2 '80 Plus' Certified Power Supply (CMPSU-600CXV2)
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX)
Corsair Value 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low Voltage Dual-Channel Kit

Asus 1GB Radeon HD 6850 DirectCU PCI-E 2
ASUS M4A89GTD PRO - AMD 890GX - Socket AM3 - PCI-E 2.0 (x16) - DDR3 2000(OC) - SATA 6Gb/s - SATA RAID - ATX

I got everything else needed, except for a new monitor, which I'll buy in Sweden anyway.
Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the forums. First of all your not allowed to mention or even worse link to competitors so best to edit your post.

How about the following for the top end of your budget.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £155.99
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 460 HAWK "Super-OC" 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £134.99
1 x Asus P8P67 LE Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION ** *LOWEST UK PRICE* £72.98
1 x BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W '80 Plus' Power Supply £44.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX) £32.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) £29.99
1 x Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £25.99
Total : £509.92 (includes shipping : £10.00).

i5 Sandy Bridge is miles ahead of anything AMD has to offer right now to be honest it's not the best time to be buying an AM3 board with the release of Bulldozer round the corner especially if you can stretch to £500.

The 6850 and GTX460 are fairly closely matched but the GTX460s overclock massively! Comparison here.

Well honestly, I was sure I've seen people mentioning other sites here before without any freak outs. o.o It's not the end of the world, since it does no harm if the site can't offer what I wanted, but I guess that's just my oh so humble opinion.

But anyway, thanks for the tip. I'm not really interested in overclocking, since I don't know a thing about it. Would the GTX460 still be the best choice?

Well if you don't want to overclock then you could put the money towards a better video card. A lot of people like to replace the noisy stock Intel fan though, even though they won't be overclocking. You can always do that later though.

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £173.99
1 x Intel Core i5-2400 3.10GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £139.99
1 x MSI H67MA-E35 Intel H67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro-ATX Motherboard - (Sandybridge) **B3 REVISION** *WITH FREE MSI GRENADE* £59.99
1 x BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W '80 Plus' Power Supply £44.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) £29.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500413AS) £29.99
Total : £490.93 (includes shipping : £10.00).

Bit under budget, added the GTX560Ti which is a cracking card for the price (on offer for today only though! Add an aftermarket cooler if you want to. Again this setup will be much quicker than the AMD one you proposed in post #1. Remember as its a H67 motherboard and a non "K" CPU you won't be able to overclock (although it does have a bit of a turbo boost).

banhammer > personnal opinions :p Just a heads up.

Dude you broke my plugin.

The HD5850 is at £119 right now. That's the best bang for bucks by a mile (It sits between a 6850 and a 6870). I would advise you to get one right now.

So yeah, ShadowBoxer's wiht a HD5850 and a cheaper cooler if you need to save your money.

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £155.99
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Extreme 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **OcUK Exclusive** £119.99
Asus P8P67 LE Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION ** *LOWEST UK PRICE* £72.98
OCZ ModXStream Pro 500w Silent SLI Certified Modular Power Supply £47.99
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500413AS) £29.99
Corsair Value 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low Voltage Dual-Channel Kit £23.98
Antec Kuhler Flow High Performance CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1156/LGA1366/AM2/AM2+/AM3) £16.99
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £11.25
Total : £481.40

Just a note that Asus deliberately gimped that motherboard (I think they make changing the Vcore awkward).

If you go with a retail 2500K and no 3rd party cooler, you can get a better motherboard.

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £169.99
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Extreme 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **OcUK Exclusive** £119.99
MSI P67A-G45 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION ** *WITH FREE MSI GRENADE* £99.98
OCZ ModXStream Pro 500w Silent SLI Certified Modular Power Supply £47.99
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500413AS) £29.99

Difficult choice. A HD5850 + 2500KP67 budget rig, or a 560ti + 2400H67.

Can Rise of Flight and DCS A-10C run smoothly on the above Spec please?
