ok, finally got round to ordering my Silver Arrow cooler from OCUK (thanks for your help 5UB) and i found a cheap Corsair 60GB Nova Series 2 SSD.
i have never seen or used an SSD before, so i have a few questions about everything.
in my previous installs i have :
- fitted mobo, cpu, ram, dvd drive and OS hard drive.
- install windows, all drivers and no software.
- fit my 2xHD6850 cards
- install drivers
- install lucid virtu
- fit all my data drives
- complete windows updates
- install games/apps

is this the same for the SSD (as its only 60GB i will be using a 1TB samsung F3 for games/apps).
also, any hints on fitting the SA?

also, what do i have to do to get the best out of the SSD? like TRIM, disable hibernate/pagefile/system restore (i know how to do pagefile/system restore but not hibernate), and are there any other tips/tricks i should know about?
i also read that defrag can kill SSDs? do i just check in the windows services that its disabled?

Don't have the HDD connected when you install Windows on the SSD otherwise some installation files will end up on the HDD.

Set to AHCI mode in the BIOS.

Disable defragmentation if it isn't already after you've installed Windows.

kool, thats the way i normally do it, but somehow windows update files seem to make their way onto my other drives
is there any magic thing to format/prepare SSDs or is it like a mechanical drive where you just let windows do its thing.
also, i vaguely remember if you right click your user folder you can changes its destination to another HDD, to save space. is this correct?

well they turned up. SA is a biatch to fit, but its in there now :)

i dont think any pictures really do justice as to how big the SA is. i thought my freezer 7 looked big and not too different in pics of min compared to other peoples pcs, but then when the box arrives and you open it, man is it big.

yeh was a pain, few cuts and scrapes on my hands but well worth it :)

loving the SSD too, windows installed sooooo quickly :)

Same here, those damn fins! I was more concerned about not damaging the fins than my hands to be honest though :p. Buying an SSD was the best purchase I'd ever made for my PC! Booting up and being able to do things straight away after around 30 seconds from hitting the On button is amazing.

Could you not of turned the S.A so it blows the hot air out of the top? or would that of interfered with your RAM?

i have 2 gfx cards that will sit below it, so doing it that way it would be sucking the hot air from them rather than cold air from the big open space at the front.

idle temps from 42c to 30c :)
