While conducting research into my next phone, people are constantly telling me of O2's deal on the iPhone 3GS for £21.50/month.

Does anyone here have/had in the past that plan and the 3GS? It seems too good to be true. There must be a catch.

The catch is that the 3GS probably will be soon EOL. With the latest version of the iPhone being released in the next few months I would wait and see what sort of deals you can get on the iPhone 4.

I would stay away!

1)While there is nothing wrong with the 3GS, it is quite outdated.

2) You get 100 mins, no unlimited texts.

As above, I would wait till the iphone 4 become cheaper nearer the release of the latest model.

Fair point. However I have once again forgotten the golden rule about posting in this forum. My phone/text/data usage is minimal: 62mins (average)/ 3 texts (that weren't BBM - this will go up but nowhere near the 500 mark) / 12MB data usage (average).

The deal suits me perfectly, and I'm upgrading from a BlackBerry Curve 8520. I don't really need the latest and greatest phone, unless it will cost me less than £25/month.

Plus, I'm told the 3GS is far more durable than its successor. And much less expensive to fix. Is that true?

I'm looking forward to ditching my 3GS when the iPhone 5 comes out. I get very poor reception, especially with O2.

The 3GS with the latest iOS updates does seem to slow down somewhat.

If you don't use the phone much you might as well get an unlocked phone and a PAYG SIM or a cheap SIM-only contract.

The 3GS contract over 24 months would cost you £516.

The Samsung Google Nexus S is £299.99 on Play.com for example.

I'd sooner be given an orange san francisco than an iphone 3GS, let alone choosing between which one I'd sooner pay for.

Way too many other options for a 2 year old phone to be worth it right now.
