Hi guys,

Im building a bog basic PC for my mother.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-344-GI
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-350-IN
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-183-OC
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-043-OP

Will this form a basic running PC? We have a hard drive from her broken laptop.

The main question is the RAM compatible with the motherboard? I've checked and it supports "1333*(OC)". Im presuming OC Stands for Overclock in this instance. Does this mean only Ram overclocked to 1333 will work?

Thanks in advance,
Cian

1333MHz (OC) does mean that RAM will only work at that speed when overclocked. Slower RAM will, however, work fine.

You can use 1333MHz RAM and it will just work at a slower speed unless overclocked.

I would recommend this RAM:

Corsair Value 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low Voltage Dual-Channel Kit

You could even just buy a single stick:

Corsair Value 2GB (1x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low-Voltage Single Channel Module

You lose dual channel operation but if it's just for surfing the net that doesn't really matter.

Corsair is much more reliable than OCZ.

The case and PSU are obviously cheap but should suffice for a basic PC. Note that the case doesn't seem to come with any cooling fans.

The hard drive from the laptop will be 2.5" so you'll need an adapter to mount it in the case:

Akasa Dual 2.5" SSD/HDD Mounting Kit

You also need to check that the drive has a SATA connection. It depends how old it is.

The motherboard only has a VGA output. Does whatever monitor you'll be using support this?

Do you have an optical drive?

I assume you have an operating system?
