X3 terran conflict - Acquiring my first Freight ship and capturing

Mouse and keyboard is fine for me. Generally I use the Ctrl fire (kinda auto aim) and either aim with Arrow keys then use mouse for selecting baddies (don't like the "Next Target" system).

Mouse is fine, never used ctrl to fire though. Interesting.

I've run into a bug, my turrets have stopped firing at enemies. Suggestions? I checked their behaviour and are set to missile defence as they always have been so they should fire at enemies when there are no missiles about. Shall change them to attack my target and see what happens.

Hate how easy it is to save instead of load!

:EDIT:

Reloading fixed it.

:EDIT2:

Broken again. SIGH!

I have 3 sector traders (1 Mistral Super Freighter, and 2 regular Mistral Freighters), left them trading with SETA on overnight, come back to find 60m credits waiting for me, none of my ships were destroyed and my traders are all level 20 now. :)

I'm trying to figure out what to do with my money now, I reckon I might just buy a Mammoth and start building a ton of stations, or perhaps buy some combat vessels and get them patrolling certain sectors, any suggestions?

I'm not doing that because I don't want to cheat but my traders aren't doing too bad now. Argon prime with a 3 jump radius means they hit a lot of hot spots.

I've got a problem though, how does autojump work? I've told it to resuply 10 jumps worth but it doesn't do it! So none of my sector traders will jump anywhere and I suspect they won't when they are universal either.

Don't waste your money on a mamoth untill you have the money to waste. 60mil will set you up a fuel complex that does 1.3mil an hour apparently.

Cheers, I'll look into building a fuel complex.

Also I don't consider what I did cheating, as it was done within the default game mechanics, you are also penalised for doing it as you lose combat and trade rank over time. Nevertheless, everyone plays differently. :)

Argon Prime with a 3 jump radius is exactly what I set my super frieghter to do, big bucks in that area, and the bonus is that area is very safe too.

What rank are your traders? You'll find that they won't start using their jumpdrives automatically until they hit a later level (mid-teens).

True true. When you make big bucks you might want to consider putting heavy patrols in areas so that you can expand your ST's or go for UT. if you do UT you might want to get a script I heard about that lets you specify sectors that it won't go into. Otherwise you can loose them in seconds to a xenon Q.

One of my traders is rank 20 but he never has any energy on him even though I told him to resuply so he never jumps anywhere.

Aye I think I'll go UT soon, but I'll definitley grab that script first, thanks.

Traders seem to be a little buggy from time to time (or perhaps it's intentional?) I had a similar problem where a trader wouldn't accept the command to start sector trading, it was because it's freight was full with other stuff, so it couldn't initially buy anything, then just idled.

Try manually buying some energy cells with your trader first, maybe it just needs that kick up the arse to get it going?

Everything in this game is a little buggy :P. I always make sure I sell their cargo off first.

Seems like I give them energy and they use it and then never buy it again. Ah well, i'll probably find a script or it will randomly start working. My turrets have decided they don't always want to work now too.

Was just thinking that if you want to leave SETA on then get a macro that hits the button every 25 minutes or what ever. That way you won't get the penalty for leaving it on.

Don't get me started on turrets. :o

I think adding a macro to do that would fall into the "cheating zone" for me, I'm happy to accept the penalty. Besides, it doesn't take me long to get my rank up, combat is great fun in this game, I use a joystick for it. :p Not for long though, as I feel I'm leaving the M5-M3 "dogfight combat" stage of the game, and moving more and more into the M6+ "click on menu, tell it to shoot stuff" phase.

The only thing left that I can think of with your traders not jumping is to make sure they actually have access to a system with a solar plant in it, although it's highly unlikely that they don't.

Couldn't get along with a joystick, bit disappointed really.Well I could do it but it's so much easier to blast the poo out of people when you can just click on the screen. Plus the whole using z axis to rotate kept throwing me, ended up using the keyboard for it instead.

Do you know of any ship carriers that can take like 4/5 ships and are decently priced? Might have to get me some marines soon when I get an m6.

The best, and only one really worth dealing with, is the OTAS Zephyrus.

Only available in Legend's Home, might need a reasonable Argon ranking to buy it.

Man I've tried this game a few times but always get totally confused. End up flying around aimlessly and giving up

I think that sometimes too much freedom in a game can be a bad thing, many people have the same problem when trying to get into Eve Online.

The idea is to do what you want within the confines of the game, and choose your own way to glory (for want of a better word).

Here's how I got started, it might help you too.

1) Starting on Argon Nostalgic, you have an Argon Buster ship and 1000 credits, complete the flight school, then head towards the nearest solar plant station (might be a few in a system called The Wall) and dock with it. Buy as many energy cells as you can fit in your cargo hold (or afford) but make sure you're buying them at a good price (12-14 credits each is good). Find a station that needs energy cells to make it's products (should be listed under the station's primary or secondary resources), and if they're buying for 17 credits or more, sell all your energy cells. Rinse and repeat.

2) When you've got a few thousand credits from trading, you can upgrade your ship, go to the nearest equipment dock and buy upgrades for your ship's engine and rudder, max those out if you can (pick up the SETA device if you haven't already, it's very cheap, and will allow you to speed up time so long journeys don't take forever). Then pick up Flight Command Software MKI, this will give you auto-aim and make combat a lot easier. When undocked, press K to activate auto-aim (it should show in the lower-left corner of your screen, make sure it's set to "ON" and not "SEMI".

3) Now you're combat-ready, look for stations that have a red target symbol in the top-right (or check your system map for it). Open comms with the station (press C when you're within 24km of the station and have it targetted) and talk with the person who has the red symbol next to their name. Accept any missions that require you to patrol a sector, or defend a station, these missions are easy as the enemy rarely focuses on just you and there's no time limit. You should start racking up the credits now.

4) From time to time on these missions, you'll find someone you've been fighting has crapped their pants and ejected from their ship. Fly to within 40m of the abandoned ship, eject from your own ship, make sure you're within 40m of the ship then left click on it's target window and select "claim". Congratulations, you now have a new ship which you can repair (press the "fire" button when ejected from your ship to use the repair laser, don't worry about it running out of juice, just keep your finger on the trigger). Once repaired, you can sell the ship for a tidy profit, or if the ship is better than yours, you can keep it. You can even have it fly alongside you so you can have some backup in combat.

From this point on you'll start earning some good money, but there's still so many things to do, so many ways to go, etc. I recommend watching the video guides on Youtube listed here.

My problem at the moment is my Wheat Farm complex in Ringo Moon isn't selling any stock & it's Energy Hauler doesn't head back when it should. Grrrrr.

I'm undercutting every local wheat farm within 5 sectors atm, so I'm starting to wonder if I've seriously misplaced it, even though it's just off the path between gates, but it's producing stock but no buyers.

Got 3 sector traders going & 1 is going great guns, the 2nd is a slow learner it seems, and I've just started a 3rd with a very cheap Dolphin hauler that I got for about 37k.

Personally I'd say go terran fighter start. You get some really good plot line stuff apparently.

MINOR SPOILER TO PLOT REWARD (WORTH KNOWING IMO

End of plot gives you one of the best m6's in the game.

[/spoiler]

It's how I started, money was slow at the start but I soon made it. There is a terran mission right at the start where you fight xenon M's and L's and they have low moral so are really easily capped. I capped 2 of them, didn't know at the time they were low moral ones or i'd of capped 10 or so and that would give you a far better income than any merchant start.

Thanks, I have high rep with argon and have been there before to pick up some freighters so I shall have to get the zephyrus too that is a briliant find! Why so cheap? :O.

Can it take my spare m3's? Shame I just sold a few of them.

At first mine seemed to be running at a loss but given a while they soon started churning out in the same spot so just leave it and check back in like 5 game day's.

Thats a good deal you got there! I never find those missions, only once did I find it and it was 100% hull so too expensive.

Yeah, I always check in each sector for ships with the € sign to see if they are selling a ship. I got my main fighter, Mamba Vanguard for about 50k, with only a minimal amount of damage so couldn't resist. Speedy & packs a punch although I do need to more weapons on it.

I'll try your suggestion & see how the wheat farm fairs. Can they be moved if necessary or am I stuck with it there if it just doesn't work out?

Not bad, my m3 was one of those ones hidden around the map for you to claim. It's easily the most powerful m3 IMO. 8 guns mounted up front, 2 turrets and 180m/s with 3x25MJ shields. Destroy Q's in it pretty easily.

They can be moved with a tractor beam but AFIK it's ludicrasly expensive. Where is it placed? If it's along the line from North to East then it should be fine and even if it's not as long as it's fairly close to it it should be fine.

How do I trade with my own station? I want to put energy into one of them and I can't figure out how :S. I'm not sure if i've bugged out but there is no trade option, can't exchange freight with either :S.

I think it's something like:
- Press R for owned stuff menu
- select hub/station, select properties
- transfer stuff
(docked at station obviously)

Haven't played for a while and can't remember off the top of my head.
